Reminded me of "Good in Bed" by Jennifer Weiner, in that both books are about life's priorities and both involve loss & grief. A nice change from all those books about women obsessed with finding a guy to "complete" them. And I laughed out loud when Shelby refers to her clingy boyfriend as a "Penis Flytrap."

Very funny book about a mother who has "watches" her two daughters from above and occasionally offers a little help to nudge them in the right direction (or at least what she thinks is the right direction!). Very funny sister relationship dynamic; I know I could relate. The characters are quirky, human and have depth. The plot line moves well, is humourous, touching, sad, happy and cetainly draws your heart into the story.
This is Saralee's first novel. She also wrote Claire Voyant. I laughed until I cried when I read this book. Shelby is scarstic. Lots of twists and turns I didn't see coming. A very quick read. Snatch this up if you want something light and funny.
From the back of the book:
Of course I expected the world -- and my daughters -- to change. It's nearly thirty years since I passed on. Still, I hardly recognize the place. Day spas on every corner. Miniature telephones. And such racy television programs. Though I do love that "Sex and the City."
And yet, some things never change. Stubbornness. Pettiness. Families who fight. Like mine. Especially my older daughter, Shelby.
She stopped speaking to the family. Hasn't been home in years. And it's not as if her romantic life is so great, either. She may be this hot-shot journalist, but she's still thirty-eight and as single as a sock in the dryer.
Enough is enough, I thought. There must be a way to get her to come home. Make nice with her father. Pal around with her adoring sister. Maybe even reunite with that little neighbor boy she never stopped loving.
One tiny problem. We've been warned about tinkering with divine intervention. But here's a universal truth every mother in the afterlife knows. Whether dead or alive, the job never ends. So, my darling Shelby, that wake-up call YOU hear tomorrow morning? It's not the Ritz. Just a little help from above.

Excellent read. Uplifting and touching.
This book is a funny read, light hearted and good.
Cute book about family, relationships and childhood love!
I thought it looked cute, but the book couldn't have been filled with more annoyingly selfish characters..
This book was really good. I've read it a few times and decided it was time to part ways. It's a quick read.
This is a fun and quick read. My first experience with this author and I will go back for more!
Really cute. it basically states that anything is possible if you just have hope
As a big fan of chick lit, this book didn't disappoint. Easy to follow the plots & twists.
Here is a book with a lot of characters and trying to find one that I like. This is a funny novel about a woman who reconnects with her family very reluctantly. Her father and his wife were hit by a car. Shelby comes back to Long Island. Her mother in the afterlife interferes with certain events to try to get Shelby back with her sister, father, and aunt. She is also trying to find a lost love she last seen when she was a child.
Very good story!
Great book!
Cute little story.
I didn't read this but it came highly recommended (I think from Chinaberry)
