When my mom was diagnosed with a terminal illness my whole family just froze. This was our first close experience with dealing with the inevitable and once again my sister and brother looked to me to "take care"of what was to be done, to lead the way. My father was ill also so i could not ask him to make important decisions. I had no idea what to do. I started with talking to her doctor for guidance. He gave me info to connect with Hospice in our area. I then obtained this book that helped my family get through some pretty tough times. This book isn't about what to do or not to do. It is stories of what to expect. It takes the whole family from the onset of illness to years after death. It covers the range of emotions both the patient and the care givers can expect. It has a reference guide for laws. It basically helps you recognize how to help your loved one who will be going through a profound internal process of reviewing their life and trying to come to terms with everything that has happened to them. How to develope greater more mature sense of self as a survivor while helping those also left battered by bereavement. How after one passes grieving goes on and can be handled in healthy ways. This book was a reference for me through both my mom and my fathers passing. It is timeless information. It is good information. This book was worth every penny I spent on it. I'm hoping it will help someone else now as much as it did me.
