The breakdown is as follows: 26-million will move within the same county, 8-million will move to another county within the same state 10-million will move to a different state. 2-million will move to another country. The population is growing at a rate of 1% per year, which means by 2030 at least 56-million people will be picking up stakes annually, and by 2050 the number grows to 65-million. These estimates might be low since the percentage of people moving is increasing faster than the general population. When thinking about the growing numbers of people moving every year, the book?s first section, Eloquence Under Canvas, will offer some insights. The book?s next section on 20th Century Design specifically shows the revolution in both design and materials that has forever changed our perception of what furniture is and what it may become. The section titled, The Flat Pack Revolution, offers additional lessons on modern furniture design, manufacture, and marketing that add another spin on providing a type of demountable furniture that comes in a box for an increasingly transient population. Transformers, the following section, addresses the issue of ?people on the move? by exploring furniture that may serve multiple purpose, thereby reducing the amount of furniture that needs to be transported. The final section, Future Trends, goes beyond individual furniture and looks ahead at the possibility of complete living environments that can be easily shipped, as a means of addressing the big idea of people on the move.
