The unique thing about this book is that it offers clues for finding living people as well as genealogical subjects. I wish Kathleen Hinckley would update this book to teach the rapidly expanding online genealogical techniques; this is why I only gave the book 4 stars. However, many of her tips and procedures are still true, no matter whether you use the Internet or the library.

Ive spent many years doing genealogical research and still found things I didnt know or forgot. But I got a wonderful review of city directories something I havent made much use of because I didnt know how to interpret some of the info offered. Hinckley offers an excellent explanation of the many, many uses of a city or county directory.

As a certified Genealogical Record Specialist and senior member of the Professional Private Investigators Association of Colorado, she knows her stuff and it shows in the asides (often highlighted with a gray background) she offers her readers.

I would recommend this book to any new genealogy enthusiast; and its a great review for those of us who have spent some time in the book trenches.
