Interesting book about the Lock Ness monster with lots of history about the area. The characters are interesting and well developed. Even Nessie is interesting. A hometown boy turned marine biologist returns home to support his father who is on trial for murder. His defense is even though he did hit the dead man, Nessie ate him. The book starts out slow but if you stick with it, the story is interesting.

Disappointing and murky read; muddled plot and storyline; vague characters. If you want to read Alten, choose any of his other books.

Amazing story with a new look at what could possibly be in Loch Ness. One of my favorite books, a must read whether you're a monster fanatic or simply would love a great story.

Though I'm a Steve Alten fan, this book didn't live up to the others I've read. Not a bad book, but it read more like a book written from a movie. However, the Scottish history is excellent, melding it with the legend of Nessie to create a fact/fantasy/legend novel.

This was just the perfect book to erase the memory of the terrible one I read before. For a book that I had so much anticipation for, this one surprisingly lived up to it! I really enjoyed this book about the ferocious Nessie. It was just a fun read and I literally smiled as I turned the pages. The Scottish accent in the book was fun too - the only thing I could have done without was the Templar knights side-story - mixing the Loch Ness Monster and the Bloop was enough myth and mystery for me, really, but still, it was a lot of fun. I do wish that there were more of these ocean thrillers, but I suppose it just makes me enjoy these few more. Still, this was his best book and I'm shocked that it was the most difficult to find.

A very fast-paced, entertaining, entirely plausible story. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely look for more by this author. I highly recommend it for a quick and engrossing read!

Fast paced. Very enjoyable. I definitely can see this made into a movie. With Sean Connery as Angus, the main character's father.

Never having read anything by Alten, I'm glad I chose this as it was an exciting read, full of easily understood history of Scotland and suspenseful to boot!

This was a wild ride from start to finish. Excellent story, the plot and all the twists and turns were great. This book makes you want to go to Scotland and find out if everything is true, one of those stories you hope is. A wild, exciting book.

I really enjoyed this book! Set in a small Scottish town, part the characters were very intriguing. It was an easy read I could hardly put it down.

Zacahry Wallace is a marine biologist afraid to go in the water. How can he solve the mysterious sightings of the Loch ness Monster without getting wet? Read to find out the where the monster really came from. or at least an entertaining possibility. Great book like all the rest of Steve Alten's.

If you like the genre, or are a fan of Nessie you may like this book. To me it was a disappointment...I had expected more action.

This was not what I expected and it was kind of slow, it starts out pretty good then it turns into a history lesson about Sir William Wallace, well, I saw the movie Braveheart and I don't need a history lesson so get on with the story. After Zach Wallace has his near drowning experience in the Loch he studies to become a Marine biologist then he has another near death experience that gives him nightmares and as the story goes on it becomes so interesting that before you know it you just can't put it down!

This is a gripping underwater thriller about a group of scientists searching for a Loch Ness monster that is killing people. As if that is not enough of a story in itself, the author throws in a Scottish murder trial, the history of Robert the Bruce and the Black Knights as well. At the beginning of each chapter are entertaining quotes of people who claim to have seen the Loch Ness monster over the years. It feels quite realistic with the science and history mixed in. This was the first Steve Alten novel that I had read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. As a heads up, there is a great deal of Scottish dialect which might slow the reader a "wee bit" if you aren't used to it.
