I love Jodi Thomas and I have almost all of her books, but I have to say that I haven't been overly impressed with the "Whispering Mountain" series. One thing I did really like about it was Drum and I was eagerly awaiting his book. Unfortunately, I felt like it was a big letdown and this was mostly because of Sage's character. She just really annoyed me. She was supposed to be 23, a fully grown adult, and a doctor, but she was so immature. She was constantly wanting to pick a fight with Drum and wanting to yell at him or "give him a piece of her mind" and it just got old after a while. It was like watching a couple of teenagers in the beginning stages of puppy love, when they like someone but they don't know what to do about it so they tease and bicker.

I understand how Drum might have fallen for her at first, but I don't know how he could have stayed in love with her when she was indifferent to him at best and downright hateful and dismissive at worst. It just didn't make sense. Personally, I was more interested in Brad and Bonnie's romance, and I found myself skipping some of the Drum/Sage parts just to get back to their scenes. Sad, considering they were only a sub-plot.

Anyway, I still love Jodi, but I don't think I'll be keeping this book. It doesn't have any kind of re-read potential for me.

I have not read any of the books in this series so began reading this one with no prior expectations. Drum was a fascinating character. Great hero!! Sage was "ok". Maybe she had more "character" in the previous books. In this book I did not see that until towards the end of the book. However, the secondary characters (Bonnie & Bradford)... wow!

I was very much looking forward to reading Sage and Drummond's story, having followed their "non romance" all through the Whispering Mountain series. It was good but not great. Maybe my expectations got too much of me. I loved Drummond from page 1 but didn't warm up to Sage until the very end of the book.

I have really enjoyed books by this author and this one was very good. I like the way she develops her characters and they are always more somewhat complex. I would recommend this book for any of my friends.

Of the 6 books in this series (so far), this is my favorite. This is the story of Sage McMurray and Drum Roak. Sage is the much younger sister to the McMurray men in books 1 3. Drum has been an interesting character; in book 2, he was introduced as a young thief. He played a larger part in the next book. Drum is definitely from the wrong side of the tracks but hes avowed his love for Sage since he was 16; Sage has never been impressed.

As the book opens, Sage is returning to her home at Whispering Mountain; she is a widowed doctor. While in Galveston, she meets the unsavory brother of her late husband. She has also brought her own nurse planning to open her practice in the small town near her familys ranch.

Sage and her nurse, while telling the brother-in-law good-bye in his Galveston gambling den near the docks, are caught up in a robbery. Sage is taken as a hostage to a dangerous robber hideout. Eventually, she is offered for bid as the nights entertainment (the new captive virgin).

Roak doesnt realize just how hard it will be to save Sage; (while Sage was East learning to be a doctor), he rose in the ranks to be one of the most dangerous gunmen in Texas.

The McMurray siblings Indian grandfather participates in the story in an unusual manner. This is a real page-turner. Enjoy!
