Whats not to love in a Philip Marlowe tale? As usual, sarcasm, innuendo, and warped similes drip from every page. This, his sixth novel, does seem to be less biting than his early works. Nonetheless, here is an interesting whodoneit with twists and turns every few chapters. And, just when you think that the case is solved, think againright to the end. No great philosophical message, just a great book for fireside relaxation with a whiskey or brandy on the side.
Probably Chandler's best, a classic Philip Marlowe mystery.
