considered a classic. i read this for a class. it left me cold. probably because the book deals with the coldness of exile from family and childhood milieu. i felt the world-building was a bit thin. interesting ideas. if you're looking for some brain building, i'd take this over just about any of this seasons lit fic.

Michael Ondaatje says it's one of the great books of our age. High praise from a man with an unpronounceable name. I can vouch for the fact that it's a fine read.

Very well written and paced. An interesting insight into the human psyche many years after a tragic event.
