I loved this debut novel from Will North. Set in Wales, it is a story about duty, loss and finding love in middle age. The scenery is breathtaking and the characters were warm and wonderful. I felt transported to Fiona's bed and breakfast and was up late into the night reading this one. I was given an Advance Reading Copy of Mr. North's new book and am looking forward to starting that one next. Very highly recommend.

Wonderful book! Loved it. It's a story about finding love later in life after heartbreak, loss, and prior commitments. Once you find love in your middle age, is it possible to sustain it and keep it going?

Will North's writing is beautiful without being overly prosaic. His descriptions made me want to pack a bag for a trip to Wales. He got all the descriptions right from the romance to the sights and sounds of a small town in Wales. His descriptions of the romantic scenes (and they're aren't overly graphic if that kind of thing bothers you) were written so beautifully and with such delicacy that I was surprised a man wrote it.

I'm looking forward to reading more of his work. I normally don't judge a book by its cover, but the cover on this book is so appropriate. This book like the cover is charming, cozy, and very welcoming.

The reason I "swapped" for this book is because it is one of my favorite books. I originally got if from the library and wanted to own a copy of it. I love the story about putting one love to rest and starting again. Great story!!!

Having read both this and the author's later book "Water Stone Heart" it's easy to see that "The Long Walk Home" was his first effort. While a good story, it's not nearly as good at Water Stone Heart (in my opinion). The story seems rather contrived in places; WSH has a better flow to it. Having said this, however, I can still recommend TLWH. The characters were good and the author made me care about them, which make up for a lot of shortcomings.

I thought this book was going to be a lot like Bridges of Madison County when I started reading it, but I'm happy it wasn't. It was a very heartwarming story and I think Will North did a good job of capturing Fiona's longing and Alec's loss. I would recommend this book because although I don't usually like books that include infidelity, Fiona doesn't abandon her husband in his time of greatest need.
