The second book in the Lavinia Lake/Tobias March saga. This was a fairly good read in that their relationship deepens to the point where I felt like I understood what drew one to the other (this is what was missing in the first book). The secondary romance between Emmeline & Anthony was sweet and I look forward to reading more about them in the next book. I guess that's not the best way to end a review but it's probably a good indication that the Lake/Marsh romance should be retired. Should you wish to read them in order, they are: Slightly Shady, Don't Look Back and Late for the Wedding.

second in the trilogy. Again lavinia and Tobias are great together. Throw in Lavinia's neice and Tobias bro-in-law who are just like them. Great read.

Ended up reading this twice... First time through I didn't know about "Slightly Shady" that introduced the characters. Second time was more interesting knowing what happened to bring the main characters together in the first place.

Fun read. Quick, too. And I don't mean just Amanda Quick.

The further adventures of Lavinia and Tobias (as started in Slightly Shady) ... Lavinia and Tobias, now lovers and business partners, are in search of a killer. Celeste, the wife of an old family friend of Lavnia's is murdered. To complicate matters, a priceless bracelet is also missing. Lavinia and Tobias figure that if they can find the bracelet, they will find the killer. Of course, they aren't the only ones searching for it. This was a charming, light read that made me chuckle. I especially like the lively interaction between Lavinia and Tobias.

I love Amanda Quick, and I adored SLIGHTLY SHADY, the first book about Lavinia and Tobias, but for some reason I just couldn't get into DON'T LOOK BACK. I may have to give it another go before I swap it out.

Not up to her usual standards in this one. A bit confusing at times and a little to drawn out.

A bit of a switch going back to 1900 England, but a good change of pace for reading. No cell phones and iPods.... Good storyline, good characters. Good read.

London lady who's skilled in the practice of mesmerism, Lavinia Lake has launched a new career as a private investigator, a startling and slightly scandalous occupation for a woman in Regency England. Strong-willed and independent, Lavinia isn't a typical society widow, a fact which alternately attracts and frustrates her enigmatic partner, Tobias March. Lavinia and Tobias have a prickly and passionate relationship, and Tobias is determined to protect her, while Lavinia is just as determined to be an equal partner in their business.

When the wife of mesmerist Dr. Howard Hudson is murdered and a rare antique bracelet known as the Blue Medusa disappears, the doctor seeks Lavinia's help. Tobias is reluctant to become involved in the matter but Lavinia feels compelled to help her late father's associate. Their attempt to uncover the murderer leads them to obscure antiquities dealers, secret organizations, amoral heirs, and ladies of the evening. And when a madman threatens Lavinia's life, only Tobias can hope to save her.
