Now I realize why authors sometimes change thier names on books. I've read one and seen other horror stories written by Hautala and had been unimpressed. I think if I had known off the bat that this was one of his, I may not have read it. But I didn't know it was his and I did read it and I'm so glad I did.
This book is not anything like his normal horror story. I'm not even sure if it can be called a horror story. But there was a ghost sort of, and an evil entity so I gusse it can be called one. But it's also has much truer elements of everday horror, like an ex who wants to kidnappe the child they had together, and ex cons bent on revenge. It almost seems like too much to put into a book, but Hautala aka Matthews blends them into one great story.

From Back Cover:
You think you've built your dream house. But you're wrong. You think you've built the perfect place for you and your husband to raise your kids. But listen to the warnings. The whispers in the night. The threats scrawled on the walls. Someone wants your family dead. Can't you see? In the window. In the mirror. Even in the chrome of the teakettle. Its the reflection of a weeping woman. Who is it? Can it be your poor mother, who just died? What happened to her face? What is she trying to tell you?

This was one scary book! It started out as your normal mystery and then all of the sudden ghost started appearing in reflections. There are several plots going on at the same time so it really keeps the readings mind working. The characters are very likable and this is a real page turner.
Good Book! My copy of this book is signed on the front TITLE PAGE by the Author...A.J. Matthews (who also writes under the name of RICK HAUTALA.....who I just saw online that Rick Hautala passed away from a heart attack as he walked his dog on Thurs March 21, 2013 !!!!!
