This is the final story in the Royal House series and I was a little disappointed that the final battle was so abrupt.
Micah is such a wonderful character with a "what you see is what you get" attitude and he expects the same from others. Liliana is the daughter of the Blood Sorcerer that destroyed his family. But Micah has no memory of those events since he was only a child when the battle occurred and he was magically whisk to the Black Castle and eventually became the Guardian of the Abyss. Liliana has to restore his memories quickly since time is running out for him to help his siblings destroy the Blood Sorcerer and rescue Elden and its inhabitants. It was several fairy tales rolled into one story and I loved the fact that Micah could fall in love with Liliana dispite her physical appearance.

As for Desert Warrior, this was a 2003 early Singh book that followed the typical Harlequin formula for a desert sheik/captor storyline. It really shows how much this writer has grown and how romance has changed in the last 8 years.

Lord of the Abyss was amazing, but the battle at the end was too rushed and it happened too quickly!

I actually liked reading Desert Warrior. It captured me from the first chapter, and I do understand why he married her even though he claimed he hated her and would never forgive her. He was madly in love with her, and couldn't live without her even though she broke his heart before. It's pretty much a cheesy romance, but I guess I'm a sucker for that type of stuff. Give it a try!

This book consisted of two novels by Singh: Lord of the Abyss and Desert Warrior. Lord of the Abyss is the last book of the House of Royals.

I didnt give very high ratings for the last two books of the House of Royal series. The only book I enjoyed was the first one by Gena Showalter and even that wasnt as good her regular work. I was thoroughly impressed with Singhs Lord of the Abyss. Micah was sweet in a clueless kind of way and the fact that he was the gatekeeper of the Abyss only added to the danger / sexy element. I also loved Lilianas attitude towards life in general. She knew when to fight and went to hold back. She was smart and knew what to do. I thought Singh also did a great job of incorporating fairytales without beatingn it with a dead horse. There were remnants of beauty and the beast, bluebeard, Cinderella, and probably a dozen more she used. My only problem was that I expected more out of the last battle. I was hoping we got to see what the other siblings had to do to breach the castle. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Ironically I have never been a fan of Singhs Desert Warrior type series. She has a few of them I think and like the other ones I had to force myself to finish it. I did but with a lot of skim reading. The problems I have with them are that generally the characters are really stupid. It also written in a way where the scenes and dialogue did not blend well together. It was very choppy. I didn't find the males sexy at all just ridiculous. I mean who marries a women knowing he is never going to forgive her for a past sin and never going to love her? Its not like she had power or money. There was nothing to be gained. And the scenes werent playful or fun. I found the book painful to read. It is so different from the writing Singh does for her shifter series that I wonder if she really wrote them. Not worth the time.

So I loved the first book but the "Desert Warrior" definitely can be skipped.
