If you're looking for a fantastic historical romance, look no further! Lord of Darkness is a phenomenal read steeped in historical detail. However, it's the characters of Margaret and Godric that own every page.
She's determined to kill the man who took her husband from her. She doesn't plan on the instant attraction she feels for the masked man, nor how dangerous he could be. She doesn't end up pulling the trigger of the gun, but she does end up in bed with him.
But it's so much more - they eventually form a relationship and give some of their heart to one another. But there are still lingering doubts and secrets that must be vanquished before they can truly be with one another. If you enjoy memorable characters, sizzling love scenes and attention to details, then you'll want to read Lord of Darkness! Delectably Delicious!

Lady Margaret St. John has two reasons for returning to London. She has vowed to kill the Ghost of St. Giles, the mysterious adventurer who murdered her lover. She will do anything to avenge his death. Megs has also returned because she wants a baby, and knows for that to happen she will need the help of her husband, Godric St. John, the man she hasn't seen since their wedding day. Godric is shocked when his wife shows up unexpectedly. His marriage of convenience to Megs starts to get complicated when she tells him she wants a baby. Godric had vowed celibacy after the death of his first wife. But the more he is around Megs, the more he begins to rethink his vow. There is nothing to stand in the way of happiness except for the fact that he is the Ghost of St. Giles.
This is the fifth book in the Maiden Lane series. The Ghost is once again saving young girls from the Lassie Snatchers. Right on his heels are the Dragoons led by Captain James Trevillion. As soon as he outwits the men trying to bring him in, he is facing a gun that is held by his wife. This is an entertaining book with very likable characters. I'm looking forward to the next installment in the series. My rating: 4 Stars.

Oh, Elizabeth Hoyt, I can't tell you how much I enjoy your writing. Your stories are fascinating and the characters have stolen my heart.
I closed this book with a satisfied sigh and smiled. This is the 5th story in the Maiden Lane series and there are hundreds of reviews already on this story in particular. I won't waste time writing out the plot or what happens or with whom. All I need to say is for you to read this. You won't regret it. The storyline was superbly thrilling and exciting. It's one heck of a read.

I can't seem to stop reading this series. I like the story line and all of the characters in each book. I especially like that the characters are involved in some way in each book as the story progresses. The time period is is 1740, but it reads more like Regency. I guess the dialog is not true to the era so each period bleeds into the next. The one thing that is confusing to me is the story that is told at the first of every chapter. Sometimes I can see how they relate and others I have no clue. Recommend
This is the 5th book in the Maiden Lane series, and Elizabeth Hoyt maintains the physical and emotional intensity that we all love about these books. An excellent read. Keep them coming!

What an exciting ride! Starts of fast and fun and keeps that course through the last page. Great full characters and secondary character are amazing and you want to know more about them.
Lots of tension, excitement, laughs, and steamy situations! Perfect!

After the previous book, I was worried about potentially this being not as good. I needn't have worried! This is Meg's (Margaret) and Godric's book. At the end of the previous book, Megs is pregnant. Her brother, Griffin, knows something about Godric and blackmails him into marrying Megs. This book opens up 2 years after their marriage.
Margaret, having lost the baby, wants a baby and to avenge Roger. I loved the book's opening with her trying to shoot Godric (unbeknownst to her). This was definitely a slow burn as they both got to slowly know the other one. I thought the guilt each felt for wanting to move on was realistic and was something each overcame. I liked that they talked about their pasts and feelings. I liked that Godric and his stepmom talked. (What an awesome stepmom!).
One thing I like are the appearances of previous (and future) characters. Artemis is in this one and her book is next (and I'm very curious; there's also her brother Apollo).

I agree with Miranda, have read all of the books that Elizabeth Hoyt has written and never, ever been disappointed in her books. When you start you can't pt it down.
I would recommend her to anyone.
