This appealing story is well-paced and held my interest from start to finish. Ewan and Bride are an unusual and refreshing couple, for each has a background that is somewhat imperfect, and yet they are clearly perfect for one another. Ewan is a collector of erotic art and has a liking for all things sensual; Bride does not reject out of hand his rather unconventional hobby, but instead has a healthy curiosity about it. Both have great appreciation for the other's qualities, and they truly connect as soul mates on a physical, emotional and intellectual level. The story has many funny moments as Ewan tries to hide his irregular activities from the prying eyes of Bride's sisters and chaperone, all while they are living under his roof. The dialogue is thoughtful and intelligent, and the romance sensual and satisfying. Highly recommended.

From back cover: When carefree rake Ewan McLean inherits an earldom, his plans for his new fortune are entirely in keeping with his lifestyle: to expand his collection of erotic art and expensive mistresses. That is, until he becomes acquainted with his most intriguing new responsibility. . . Bride Cameron is beautiful, unmarried, and sole caretaker of her three younger sisters. Now its Ewans duty to see that she is provided for. But to his amazement, the last thing the fiery lass wants is Ewans help. The simplest thing would be to walk away. But Bride, with her sparkling gaze and fierce wit, is the most bewitching woman Ewan has ever met. And he intends to have herand to learn how she has managed to survive on her own. Even if he has to employ all the arts of seduction for which he is notorious.

This is an R-rated, or maybe an X-rated historical romance. Quite well written, but you probably wouldn't want your little sister to get hold of it.

When notorious seducer Ewan McLean reluctantly accepts the Scottish earldom left to him after a triple tragedy, he quickly learns that not all his new duties are onerous. Keeping an eye on the welfare of lovely if stubborn Bride Cameron and her three sisters is a pleasure, especially when he's kissing Bride, and his government-backed investigation into a banknote counterfeiting ring proves quite intriguing. But Bride knows one important thing about the counterfeiting ring that Ewan does not: the fake banknote plates can be traced back to her dead fatherand to her family, which would earn them forced transportation to Australia. And while she and Ewan can find common ground in each other arms, she well knows an earl wouldn't sully his reputation by marrying a criminal. Fortunately for her, Ewan still possesses a strong disdain for respectability. Snappily paced and bone-deep satisfying, Hunter's books are so addictive they should come with a surgeon general's warning. Each seems to grow a little more lighthearted than the last, yet Hunter (The Charmer) doesn't neglect the absorbing historical details that set her apart from most of her counterparts, engaging the reader's mind even as she deftly captures the heart.

This is my first read by the author. I enjoyed the sexual tension and romance. Ewan was erotic enough to make the desire really heated. I found some of the search for the plates to be a bit boring. However it is a quick read and one that allows the reader to get the romance, steamy sex and a driving need to read more.

(Spoiler) Not the best of the series by any means, this historical romance is the classic "rake reformed" read. Good for when the female reader chooses not to think very hard, the improbability of counterfeiting money to give to the poor & displaced renders the plot flawed.

Interesting as the reader doesn't really know what's going on until well into the book.

Ewan McLean unexpectedly inherits an earldom, and so must keep a deathbed promise made to his uncle, the late earl. His new estate comes with responsibilities that do not agree with his previous life style. He must travel to the Highlands, and find some way to make amends to the man his uncle had wronged. When he arrives, he finds the man deceased, and survived by four daughters. They apparently have no money, and the estate is run down, but the girls are refusing all help from Ewan. He stays to investigate, and decides to seduce Bride Cameron, the eldest daughter. But, Bride is doing her best to get rid of him. The book is enjoyable, if a little drawn out in places.
