Wow! What a terribly written book! With a well-written book, its possible to live in another reality for the hours it takes to read. This book really missed the mark. I thought the premise sounded interesting and the cover is truly hot, sadly the characters all seemed one dimensional with flat personalities. No doubt this is because the author decided to tell us what was going on rather than showing us. Story-telling isn't something everyone understands without a live audience to give feedback. I'm telling you, any audience would have run out of the room to go find sharp implements to poke out their ears >;(
This book made me really appreciate other authors who consistently use words appropriate to the historical period in which they're writing and after trying to read this novel, I'm an even bigger fan of authors who can make their stories come alive with the simple technique of showing what happens in their story instead of just talking about it.
I'm sad that my local library spent dollars from their book budget on this boring book. Read Kim Harrison's new book, it's number 11 or 12 in the series and just as amazing as all the others!
The vampire Nefri divides the magical Medallion that created the Veil (a utopia for all vampires) into three pieces and places them into the care of three women for safekeeping after rogue vampires decide to go after the Medallions power. In My Lord Vampire, we follow the arrogant Gideon Ravel on his rescue quest of one of the woman holding the Medallion, Lady Simone Gilbert. Simone has a dark secret of her own and there is a reason she wants everyone to believe she is the Wicked Temptress and remain apart for others. The first vampire traitor, Tristan, has located Simone and it is Gideons mission to protect her from him. Gideon is instantly attracted to Simone which makes protecting her just that much easier.
This first installment of Ivys republished Immortal Rogues trilogy fell short for me. There is little romance and the characters just werent strong or unique in my mind. I did think that the premise of having the vampires living behind a Veil different but the story doesnt touch on this alternate world much. If you are looking for a light, quick paranormal read with the standard mysterious vampire then I think you would enjoy this.
