This book was on some recommended reading list so I had added it to my paperbackswap.com wish list and recently got it. The stories that were the most interesting were the ones about real life explorers who had disappeared. There were several chapters that were about local myths--I don't know if these were actual folklore of the particular area(s) or something the author made up. I didn't find those stories to be particularly intriguing or add anything of value to the book. I found my interest and patience wearing thin when I still had about half the book to read. I managed to finish it but wouldn't recommend it.
