I thought that this book was good. It has passion and some suspense within. The main female character is strong and admirable. The male character is domineering but becomes tame when he finds love. This story is from the late 1800's and is set in England and Scotland.

This is the fifth of six books in the "Governess Bride" Series, and I think the best one so far! I've loved each book in the series, but this is my favorite ... can't wait to read #6!
Lovely and world-weary, Enid MacLean has no wish to set eyes on her ne'er-do-well husband again. Abandoned by him nine years earlier, she has supported herself as a nurse companion. When Mr. Throckmorton tells her that her long-absent husband is wounded, dying, and in need of her, she reluctantly travels to Throckmorton's estate where she finds a man whose face and body are badly wounded but whose eyes are the distinctive green and gold she remembers. Grimly, she sets about saving his life.
Stephen MacLean wakes and his body grows stronger, but his memory is nonexistent. He doesn't remember being married to Enid, yet the beautiful woman with the acerbic tongue challenges and enchants him. Enid is dismayed to find herself being seduced once again by Stephen. How can she desire the husband who treated her so shabbily? Meanwhile, Stephen's instinct warns him they're in danger, but it isn't until their lives are threatened and nearly lost that Throckmorton sends the couple north to Stephen's family estate, where the truth, finally revealed, is startling.

Book 5 of her Governess series, this is as amusing and engaging a tale of romance and intrigue as any Dodd has penned. Eight years ago, Enid MacLean was abandoned by her wastrel of a husband after 3 months of marriage. Now she is told they have found him, but he is dying and it is her duty to care for him. Against her will she goes, but finds herself mired in political intrigue when she is told her husband was spying for England and wounded in an explosion. He has lost his memory, and they need her to help him recover it for the information he possesses. Caring for him she realizes he has changed over the years and she unwillingly becomes attracted to him again. Dodd's strength is in her humor and characters, and this story is no exception. What I did find disappointing was the attempt at an outrageous and extravagant climax to the story, because while the book's buildup was entertaining enough, the resolution left much to be desired in its absurdity and attempt at a gimmick to make it different from the standard of the genre.
Tale of a Scot and his english wife reunited. Sort of. He has amnesia and it's actually his cousin's wife. Good read though. Have to love those Scots! He's an endearing hero. Enjoyed this one, I hadn't read this author in awhile.
The premise of this entire story, that a woman cannot recognize her husband, former lover was just not very believable. It would have been easier to believe her thinking that he's someone else the entire time, than her husband.
