My teenage daughter asked me to read this book. She had read it at school and it had touched her heart. The episodes of abuse, neglect, and violence were almost too much for me to stomach, but it gave me a better insight into the challenges that children who have been in this situation have faced.

Imagine a young boy who has never had a home. His only possessions are the old torn clothes he carries in a papper bag. His only world is isolation and fear. Although this young boy has been rescued from his alcoholic mother, the real hurt is just beginning-he has no place to call home. Exceptional book. Well worth reading.

I have read both A Child Called It and The Lost Boy: A Foster Child's Search for the Love of a Family. The second book is alot more graphic as far as being told what his... I don't even know what to call her... his birther? Anyways what she did to him, what he went through,You can't help but want to take this small boy into your arms and want to hide him from all the dangers and all the ugly people of the world! It is amazing that he is was and is not bitter towards her. The boys has grown in to a beautiful man whith a family of his own. He has truely overcome the ugliness that was dealt to him as a boy and triumphanted! (sp?) Alot of children, men and women could not survive such terrors. A bittersweet book, to say the least.

This is the second book in a series of three. This book follows the book called "A Child Called It" by the same author. This book tells of David's existence between the ages of 12 and 18. I loved this book. I felt a sense of closure to the first book and you get a clearer picture of what happens to foster children.

This is the second book in the trilogy. I couldnt put it down. I read this one in record time too. I got it at lunch time and finished by dinner. I loved it although I thought he could have kept a more obvious timeline. It was a little hard to figure out at what age he was throughout this one.

The second installment in David Pelzer's recounting of his traumatic childhood and adolescence will leave you feeling a tremendous sadness for the plight of the foster child. The book is no great literary work, but a window into the deep scars child abuse leaves behind and the great strength of will that it takes a child to survive these overwhelming odds.

I LOVED this book and the other two in the series. They are the true story of a chid who was abused and went through the foster care system. I advise EVERYONE to read them, especially anyone thinking about being a foster parent.

This story tears at the heart of the reader. For teachers, it reminds you of the life outside of school and how horrendous it can be. For the parent, it makes you angry that not everyone cherishes their children. For the foster parent, it is the good, the bad, and the ugly of what the child has experienced before coming to your home.
The saddest part is that while this happened many years ago, a similar story is still happening today to other children.

Very true and tragic story that really gets you right to the core. It made me cringe, cry and very sad that anyone could do the things that were done to a child for so many years without remorse or consequence. It is a brutal but savage story that will haunt you for years to come.

After reading Dave Pelzer's first book, I had to get the second one. The Lost Boy is an incredible account of Dave's life as a foster child after being rescued by a police officer from his mother's wrath. Dave's life was unpredictable. He jumped from one foster home to another, sometimes without previous notice. All his belongings were almost always packed in a grocery bag.
As soon as he started to feel comfortable in a foster home, he was changed to another.
This is a must read book. It puts into perspective what foster care is all about. It takes away preconceptions that one can have regarding foster parents and their true objective by being so.
I definitely recommend this book. It is rich in detail and the author expresses his feelings in a way that you can almost feel you're going through his suffering. I cannot wait to read the 3rd. installment.

Although now rescued from his alcoholic, abusive mother, another kind of pain is just beginning for him-- he has no place to call home. As an adolescent foster child, he experiences the instability of moving from home to home, the journey of this little lost boy who desperately searches for the love of a family. Regardless of your opinions of the foster-care and social-service systems, Pelzer is a living testament to the necessity of their existence.

This poor kid. He comes out of an abusive home and hopes to be placed in a loving family. He goes into the foster care system which is a nightmare all by itself. How this child survived to become a decent person is truly miraculous!

The topic of child abuse and the foster care system may not be everyone's cup of tea, but the writing is so beautiful and optimistic, I couldn't help but fall wildly, madly in love with this kid and not from pity alone. Although I was aghast at Dave's early experiences and life, I was doubly inspired by his tenacious spirit. This is a gruesome story that most would likely not have made it through intact, but it is not all grit and grime. It is a moving story of a boy who was looking for love and a place in the world but a child from a mother with mental illness who could not offer a safe loving place. I highly recommend this book.

I am working towards becoming a social worker. In part because of my love for children, but in part because of Dave Pelzers tragic story. I picked up his first book a child called It and intended to read it while my kids played at the park one summer. I read a few pages on our way home and could not put it down. I then went back the next day and got this book and next book in this series. I cried just about the whole time that I read this book. It is a very touching book that is also motivating.

This is a continued story of "A Child Called It". The story was better, not as predictable. The author must get better with each book. I hope the final book is even better. The author does make you want to see what happens to him as an adult.

If you've never read the first book "A Child Called It," you won't really fully understand this one. This book is a continuation of life of David Pelzer from where he left off in the other book. It is written in pretty much the same way as the first one and has its sad moments as well. However, it is much easier to read. Although, I would not recommend it unless you've already read, "A Child Called It."

This is a great read (sad though). It is such an inspiring story of the life of an abused child. I even got my husband to read this and A Child Called It. He doesn't even read books and he made it through both of these books. Easy to read but hard on the emotions! I recommend this book to all!

This is one of those books that I don't think I could read again. Don't get me wrong, it was very well written. This is about the unthinkable, a mother abusing her child for whatever reason. A child that never knew why he was in trouble and always trying to be a "good boy." He had other sibblings that were never treated in such a disturbing way, at least not until the end of the book. As the reader it made me want to jump into the book and smack that mom silly. You're heart will go out for this poor abused boy.

Wow what a story! I have not yet read the book that follows this one although I am told that it is very inspirational, as is this book. The Author of this book is the "Lost Boy" he tells the reader a very detailed, yet very painful story about a childhood of heartbreak and pain, abuse, ridicule, but don't get me wrong, this is painful, but worth the read. He takes the reader through tears and joy, hunger a turmoil, an emotional rollercoaster, you find your heart fighting for this boy.

this was another good book, I enjoyed it.
A follow-up to A Child Called It, this is the second in a trilogy from Dave Pelzer. He tells his story from the time he left his abusive mother and alcoholic father, through his experiences in five foster homes and juvenile detention, and how he eventually made it into the Air Force. He was a defiant and rebellious boy but despite his background and personality he managed to endear himself to many guardians, social workers, and teachers. A very emotional book but a must read if you've already read the first book.

Another "chapter" to the saga of the child called "It" as he tries to adjust to his new life in the foster system. I found it difficult to remember at times this is a true story, as it is the stuff of which movies are made. I commend Dave Pelzer not only for perservering through his ordeal, but for having the courage to not only tell his story, but to do so in such a straight-forward and honest way.
Very good follow-up to "A Child Called It". It's amazing to see the will of the human spirit.

The 2nd book in the series of 3 - still such a shocking story that defies reality. I will never be able to get over the fact that his own biological mother did these horrific things to a child! A heart-breaking story of a young boy who was treated so badly by his Mother that I kept thinking it was fiction (but, it is a true story). I ordered the other two books that go with this series by Dave Pelzer also. It just turned my stomach to think a Mother could do that to her son, especially when there were two other children in the family that she treated well. The Father also did nothing about the Mother's treatment of Dave, and I could not conceive of him just letting all of this torture happen and not turn her in to the police. A MUST read.

Maybe it's just me but after awhile the "poor me" attitude starts to wear on me. Yes, I understand he had a horrible mother that did unimaginable things. But even in foster care nothing was ever Davids fault. For example David was stealing toys from a store. He went in to steal a toy for another boy, only to find out afterwards he was set up, the other boy's father was a manager at the store. So we were all suppose to feel bad for David that the boy set him up like that. What about David being a grown up now realizing he was stealing & admitting it was wrong? He always had an excuse for doing something wrong, it's never his fault. And I just get the impression as an adult David still feels this way.

Such a sad childhood of going to one foster home after another and trying to understand and deal with his life of abuse from his biological mother. This is the 2nd book in a trilogy. The first one is A Child Called It and almost unbearable to read. It's discusting what his mother did to him. The 3rd book is A Man Called Dave. With everything he had gone through he turned his life around. These are fast reads.
