The book is the second in a series, but do not let that stop you from reading it without having read the first one. Adrienne Barbeau makes a good many references to the first one and you learn a lot and have a sense of knowing what happened in the first.

I loved the first one so much I made sure that when this one came out I ordered it from the only bookstore in California where Mrs. Barbeau was signing autographs. It was one of the rare sequels that is just as good as the first. I truly hope she does a few more books in this series.
