if you have seen the movie Shine, about David Helfgott,this is a wonderful companion piece to it written by his wife. it explains many things that i found difficult to hear in the movie.

I first watched the movie Shine about the life of David Helfgott, a musical genious. This led to my interst in his biography as written by his wife. I'm very glad I saw the movie first. When I read the book I could hear their voices and the cadence of their speech, especially David's. The movie was incredible and the book added to my understanding of David and how he became the man that he was. Next I want to read the biography of David and his family written by David's sister with whom he did not have a close relationship.
