A very sweet book about a boy's journey through life and to an appreciation of poetry. Written in kind of a "journal" format, you get to see his thoughts and experiences that he goes through.

a great book about a boy who is becoming a poet. It's written journal-style, it's short, and there isn't too much text per page.

I have boys and this book speaks to me in terms of how Jack tells his story as part of school assignments from Mrs. Stretchberry. This is a wonderful, simple story that appeals to children, adults and parents.

This is a great book for introducing children to the idea of reading and writing poetry. A young boy who doesn't think he could ever like or write poetry ends up doing just that, progressing from very simple lines to the story of his much-loved dog. The format of the book is nicely laid out and easily read - probably best for 4th-5th graders.

One of the best, most touching children's books -- and poetry books -- I've ever read.

This is an excellent book. My son got it in 3rd grade, and we read it over night. The whole house was in tears before the story ended. It is a wonderful story about a boy who learns to express himself through the art of poetry. It's a MUST read!
