A very sweet book about a boy's journey through life and to an appreciation of poetry. Written in kind of a "journal" format, you get to see his thoughts and experiences that he goes through.

Great book about a boy and his dog. With the help of a teacher he learns to write down his greif in poems.

a great book about a boy who is becoming a poet. It's written journal-style, it's short, and there isn't too much text per page.
This is a great book for introducing children to the idea of reading and writing poetry. A young boy who doesn't think he could ever like or write poetry ends up doing just that, progressing from very simple lines to the story of his much-loved dog. The format of the book is nicely laid out and easily read - probably best for 4th-5th graders.
I have boys and this book speaks to me in terms of how Jack tells his story as part of school assignments from Mrs. Stretchberry. This is a wonderful, simple story that appeals to children, adults and parents.
Good but also sad. I liked it.
very good book!
Short but touching book.
My son the "Dog Lover" highly recommends this book as he thoroughly enjoyed it and doesn't want to give it up!
One of the best, most touching children's books -- and poetry books -- I've ever read.
This is an excellent book. My son got it in 3rd grade, and we read it over night. The whole house was in tears before the story ended. It is a wonderful story about a boy who learns to express himself through the art of poetry. It's a MUST read!
I loved this book. It was quick and fun.
poetry/prose and line drawings. A nice slim hardcover
Ok, not what I thought it was. It's different poetry. I thought it was about dogs.
I got this for my grandson who hates to read. He got through it and actually liked it. His sister couldn't wait to read it, she enjoyed it a lot.
