Typical Notaro humor. You either love her or hate her. Personally I love her! This one made me laugh just as much as her first book did. She doesn't seem to be losing steam and I hope she keeps writing more books!

Humorous Memoir/Essays: Funniest books I've ever read. I laughed at loud until people thought I needed help. It might be picked on by others for technical reasons, but it's perfect to me. Great for young women who shun girly chick lit, but I bet all women can identify with these stories of embarrassing school moments, humiliating adult moments, and sarcastic outrage at the too skinny too pretty too perfect people. Or too dumb. You have a tendancy to put your foot in your mouth a lot? This will make you feel WAY better about those painful memories. This is the second in a continuing series, first is The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club, after this one is Autobiography of a Fat Bride and then We Thought You Would Be Prettier.

I was really looking forward to this book but the author's effort of trying to make every sentence funny resulted in the hilarious parts losing a lot of their punch. Maybe if I'd read her first book it would have helped me believe the over-the-top characters (or caricatures) that she included as her family, co-workers and friends. I think I would prefer to read her as a columnist -- a little goes a long way.

For sarcastic drivel by a witty female, I prefer reading Jen Lancaster. This author seems to be attempting to pack too many metaphors and humorous blurbs into a sentence. I often felt like we needed to take a breath and were losing the point. End the sentence already. Less is sometimes more, especially when trying to make me chuckle. The many references to substance abuse were much in the style of Amy Sedaris. If you like that kind of thing.

This was a fun read. I was laughing from page one until the end.

Laurie Notaro does it again! Her books are soooo funny...I laugh out loud again and again. For those unaware of her books, she writes about things in daily life that all women can relate to, but she does it in such a funny, sort of sarcastic way. I can't tell you how many times I laughed out loud...even in public. She's that good. In this book, she gets a real job, and a lot of it deals with that, although there are other things also. How many of us haven't thought about doing what she does when someone's dog (being walked by the owner)poops on her lawn and isn't picked up by the owner?...Laurie runs out with a pen and paper, asking for the owner's address so that the next time her dog needs to poop, she can bring him to his house. Laurie Notaro has no problem making fun of herself or her things, and as I've said, it is all stuff we can relate to. If you haven't read her yet, and you love laugh out loud books, give her a try.

Her humor is a little too over the top for me. I wouldn't have finished this book if it wasn't for my bookclub.

Well, this was pretty funny - there were definitely a few laugh-out-loud parts. I especially enjoyed "The Sims" essay, but, overall, I thought that her second book has been her funniest. This third one felt a little too personal - she discusses her first book deal, choosing to not have children... I don't know - some sections felt too much like reading someone's diary, albeit a funny diary, but a diary nonetheless. Also, some of the essays were a bit redundant, with the same jokes appearing throughout. I guess, I would say it is on par with her first book.
Laurie Notaro can make me laugh out loud every time I read one of her books, even when I re-read them I still laugh and feel good.

Started off pretty funny, ended sour. This felt like a book written to specifically piss off ex-coworkers. "Hey, look at me, I'm on the NYT best seller list! Bet you wish you didn't fire me!"

There were a few stories in this book that made me laugh really hard, but overall i thought the book was a little annoying. It got really hard to read and I didn't finish because I found the author to be a little obnoxious and over dramatic.

Now I know what side-splitting laughter is. Many of the stories made me laugh so hard I pulled something or wheezed and gasped for air. One or two essays I thought should've been excluded from the book as pointless and not funny. Overall, if you liked "Idiot Girls", this one will not disappoint.

Notaro's collection of essays this time centers around her various frustrations at living in a world populated by doofuses, dolts, and demanders of various ages, sizes, and social standing. Meanwhile, she's awaiting the publication of her first book, trying to hang on to her job amid corporate shuffling, and fending off inquiries about her reproductive status.

While she definately has a great sense of humor, I wasn't a big fan of this book. I know it is more or less a compilation of events in her life, but I felt no investment and no desire to pick this book back up after putting it down. She seemed obnoxoius, overly critical and like someone else said..."over the top". Just a little much, in my opinion...it got annoying. I think I'm more apt to enjoy a memoir that actually has a story line to it. But if you are a Jen Lancaster fan, I imagine you'd love Laurie's narrative and sarcasm, as they are definately laughable.
This book was great. Made me laugh out loud several times, sometimes so much that I had trouble catching my breath, which is unusual for me.
