I have read this book over and over and over to all my four children. The eldest is now 28, the youngest 17 and they all remember it fondly. Now I read it to my precious granddaughter... I love them forever...
Those who think this book is strange or sentimental hogwash must have hearts of stone.

My daughter brought this book home from the library when she was in first grade... she is 19 now. I was a crying mess whenever I read it but I love it. I buy it for a baby shower gift every time... now I am picking up a copy for my daughter... so I can read it to my new grandson.

I don't believe that this book was meant to show love as an obsession. I think it is more a symbolic type thing-showing how much love the mother has for her son. I dont think it is supposed to be taken so literally. That is what makes this a cute book. This book is so heartwarming and loveable. I had this book read to me when I was little and now I read it to my little ones. Sometimes it actually gets me misty eyed. You can feel the love and so will whomever you read it to. Great story and I have always loved it and always will!

I highly recommend this book for every mother's library. This is a poignant book detailing a mother's love for her child through stages of his life from a baby to adulthood. It never fails to bring tears to my eyes and a catch in my voice when I share it with my children. Every mother will relate to the beautiful feelings it conveys.

I cry everytime I read this book to my kids, they watch me waiting to see if I can make it to the end without crying! But a must have for every new mom!
