A good scary read! You'll read it fast just to find out what happens next. This is the first book I've read by this author, but it definitely won't be the last. If you like John Saul, this book is for you.

"To most people it´s just a large house, old and a bit run-down.
To the Kellar family it´s a new start, a chance to wipe out the painful past and begin again.
But soon it will become a living nightmare.
The terrors begin before the Kellars have even finished unpacking. They hear things, see things, shadowy glimpses into the impossible, things that are there -- and then gone.

Who are the mysterious children playing on the rusty, vine-covered swing set in the backyard ? Who is the figure sitting in the dark corner of the bedroom at night ?
Who or what waits in the basement ? They are the dead and they cannot rest. Horror stalks the halls of the Kellar house. And the secrets of the past are reaching from beyond the grave to destroy the living."

An all around successful horror classic, an old story revided. The plot´s for a lot of horror readers nothing new but Mr. Garton set a new course that will fascinate every reader.

I enjoy "old fashioned" ghost stories (without a lot of gore), and this one satisfies on that respect. The characters seem real and react in a believable way. And for once, i did not feel a book was too long and padded with extraneous nonsense. Recommended.

First book by Garton I've read, highly recommend reading. Found it hard to put down, you want to keep reading to found out what will happen next. Currently still reading but nearly done. It would definitely be in my top 10 favorites books.

This book has all the ingredients for a solid horror story: haunted house, tortured souls, a child at risk, a parent in denial, a really sick, evil and demented spiritual presence, and a good psychic. What more could one ask for? An enjoyable vacation read that grabs you from the beginning and builds to a sensational conclusion. You might not want to read it at night if you're alone and the least bit skittish.

Warning: if you are particularly sensitive to children at risk, especially little boys, this book is not for you.
