Miss Hayes is one of those young ladies who had no fortune when their father died and must enter the world. The choice is to be a paid companion or a teacher. Miss Hayes became a teacher and was employed at Miss Wolfraston's Ladies Seminary. Because she has become so fond of one student, Charlotte Fletcher, she is asked to accompany Charlotte to her aunt's home for the summer. Charlotte was an orphan who was very reserved when she went to the seminary and was still reserved and anxious.

Although she does not want to return to the world of the ton, Miss Hayes overcomes her worries about leaving the ton behind in order to help Charlotte. Mr. Bamber, the vicar, and Sir Horace keep the pace lively. Horace, in the past book, looked like a bumbling idiot. However, when we get the backstory, he emerges as a person of ability who has a problem with communicating with ladies.

I enjoyed this one nearly as much as the first in this series. I look forward to the last of the trio.
