This book is not Gaffney's best. It pales in comparison to the Saving Graces. The husband in this story doesn't have enough depth and is a bit stereotypical. The wife is developed better and was more interesting. Although I wasn't happy with the selection of "dash" as a nickname for the wife. It sounded like it was picked more for the title of the book.

I will give it props to discussing the topic of separation between a couple who was married for 20 years and whose only child just left for college.

Other than that it was mediocre for me.

A good read. I liked the main character, a 45 year old woman questioning her marriage, because she was written like someone you would know. She had a real personality. This book was both moving and funny, which for me is always a winning combo.

If you like Gaffney's style, interesting female characters with "I'd say that" dialogue and spot on "everyday" details & descriptions this is for you. Again Gaffney brings some conflicted female character and a back seat filled with significant others on good ride.Having enjoyed The Saving Graces a great deal, Mad Dash did not let me down.

I didn't really care for this book. Probably because its audience is targeted directly towards women with college-age or older kids... I just didn't find this book to be nearly as interesting or funny as the reviews stated. The problems and characters did not ring true to me, and overall they seemed silly. Also, for a book with a dog prominently featured on the cover, there weren't enough dog antics... I think the main problem, was really just that I was not the intended audience for this book.

Decent audio narration - will appeal to older listeners who have been married or been in long relationships rather than younger audiences.

Narrator gives each character their own voice making it quite easy to know who is speaking - she does a better job with the women than the men.

The book deals with a long-married couple who are starting to see their marriage go stale. Dash (called Dash because as a child she hated the name "Dot") decides to go off on her own for a while - they go through couples counseling, some growing and everything turns out fine in the end as you knew that it would.
