Some of Carr's books are among my favorite mysteries (Problem of the Green Capsule, The Three Coffins), but this early Dr. Fell story falls flat. A little too long, too many expositions, a few annoying characters (the ingenue who talks like a spoiled six-year old) and as expected an extremely convoluted solution to the murder. An ok example of the genre, but not the best.
