It took forever for Virgil Flowers to get the villains. Quite frankly, I was getting so I wanted them to get away with it. I've read a few of Sandford's book sand enjoyed most of them. Perhaps because the villains were so horrible, I didn't enjoy this one.
I'll give it 2 1/2 stars then say this:
It is long, overdone, gets boring by half way, language gets tiresome reading the 'f' word over and over (so not necessary).
Reads like it is based on 'natural born killers' and it just drags on and on until you just get tired of the whole thing!

Another excellent book by John Sandford. The end of the book took awhile to wrap up and it was unexpected. Enjoy!
I've been enjoying John Sanford's "Virgil Flowers" stories and this one is no exception. It kept me glued to the story to find out what was going to happen. BCA's best officer actually ended up working two related cases which helped pique my interest. But the way it ended, I was a bit disappointed.

Like his mentor, Flowers is tall, handsome, rugged and familiar with the part of the state where the murders take place. His prose as vigorous and entertaining as in the Prey novels, Sandford builds the tension of a final confrontation through chapters describing the young killers and their victims and the unfolding conflict between what Virgil needs to happen when the three are caught and Sheriff Duke's intentions for the spree killers.

I loved this book. John Sandford does it again with another great Virgil Flowers novel. This time, Virgil has his hands full trying to find two murdering teens who have no qualms about killing anyone who gets in their way. Including cops. Don't miss this great book! I couldn't put it down.
This one was better that #5 in the Virgil Flowers series and that is saying a lot.

In "Mad River" we have Virgil Flowers pesonifying the old saying about Texas Rangers.....you have one riot, send one ranger. Here you have three desperate young malcontents on a brutal killing and robbery spree eluding all the sheriff and police departments and the national guard so you send in one BCA agent in his pickup truck, that f****** Flowers, to get the job done. And he does, in his own abrasive style, and rekindles an old flame along the way for a little R&R while struggling with the bad guys, an arrogant sheriff, the national media and even the victims families.

Excellent...quick read, another really good Flowers story. Interesting plot.

Virgil Flowers is called in to investigate a murder spree by three young adults, but something's not sitting right with him. Whereas the two main killers are seriously psychopathic and feel absolutely nothing for those they're killing, it had to get started somewhere. The reader rides along with both Virgil as he tries to figure everything out, and with the kids as they commit their lethal crimes. The ending, however, it what is really the surprise. Good book to listen to during my commute to/from everyday.
Good book, easy reading. Keeps your attention!
