I enjoyed the book (though not nearly as much as Smith's "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn"), one of my all time favorite books). The main male characters were SO annoying and self-centered, that it detracted from the (otherwise) charm of the book. I enjoy reading about life in a bygone era, so it did not disappoint in that respect.
