An inspiring story which begins with Maggie Comer, who grew up in extreme poverty in rural South. It begins with her story and her achievements and it goes on to profile her son James who is not an award winning psychologist and a brilliant educator. I recommend this book to blacks, as a story of what is possible, but not without struggle. And I recommend it to whites who, like myself, can never truely understand, but at least can get a glimpse of what it meant, and means to grow up black in a so-called desegregated America. A beautifully written, and inspiring story.
