Nineteen and orphaned, Maggie O'Keefe is on her own in a new country - on her own, that is, with her three-year-old sister Fiona. Maggie struggles to balance her thriving business, an Irish pastry bakery in Postwar Wabash, Indiana, with Fiona's care. She succeed at both jobs until, one day, Fiona disappears.
Wabash sheriff Simon Master, assuming Maggie to be a careless young mother, soon joins the search. Simon has a particular distaste for negligent parents and informs Maggie that he questions returning Fiona to her custody when - and if - the child is found.
If Simon weren't questioning her every move, Maggie might find the man attractive. Can they move past their negative first impressions? Can they work together for the sake of a child?
Enjoyed this book. Colleen Coble is always good.
