This was the eighth book in the Kate Daniels series and it was an awesome one. This series is one of my absolute (if not my absolute) favorite urban fantasy series. I love the world, the action, the characters, and the humor. Spoilers ahead for those who haven't read previous books in this series.

I listened to this on audiobook and I absolutely love listening to these on audiobook. The narrator does an awesome job and sounds exactly like I imagine Kate would sound. She conveys emotion well and does an excellent job with different character voices.

Kate and Curran have broken from the Pack and are making a life for themselves. The Pack can't afford to pay Curran what they owe him so they offer him shares in the Mercenary Guild...which is a complete mess right now. It's not a great deal but Curran is determined to make it work. Meanwhile George comes to Kate and Curran for help; her boyfriend is missing and she wants help finding him. As Kate and Curran dig into the case, they find themselves fighting more and more bizarre creatures. It seems that maybe all these strange things are connected and an ancient evil is stalking the streets of Atlanta.

I adore these books. Kate, Curran, and Julie are awesome characters and I love reading about them. I love all the side characters too, they have a lot of depth and are incredibly interesting. These books have absolutely perfectly done action scenes and lot of humor as well; it makes this such a fun series to read.

In this book the storyline involving George's SO's disappearance is resolved and the plot involving Kate and her father makes some progress. There is a dinner scene between Kate and Roland that was highly entertaining.

Overall I absolutely love this series. It is a perfect blend of action, urban fantasy, awesome world-building, engaging characters, fantastic plot, and humor. This whole series has been incredibly entertaining to read and I highly recommend it to all urban fantasy fans out there. This is one of the best urban fantasy series out there right now.

My absolute Favorite author(s) and storyline because Andrews cares about their readers. Even though there can be a long time between books in the series, Ilona Andrews has an interactive blog which offers free snippets of their next book(s), a free online story, and other interesting tidbits that keeps you up to date with how they're doing.
So... where some authors keep publishing and we don't even know about it, this one makes a connection to their readers/fans reminding us the book is coming our and where they will be appearing.
I love the Kate Daniels storyline because I cannot predict into which direction it will go, and it is always so interesting and imaginative. If you have not read this Kate Daniels series, do yourself a favor and start with the first book.

M.S. opens a few months after breaking off from the pack. Kate and Curran are living in suburbia. George (Mahon's daughter) comes to see them after her boyfriend goes missing and no one from the Pack looks for him.
This had action. Tons of it. The banter I adore. The scene from Applebees.
Someone that could have helped and didn't. I liked the revelations about the ghouls.
There wasn't much in the Roland story-line. A few books ago I would have said he is evil and wants Kate dead, but now? Maybe he's changed? Or he wants us to think it because he's really evil. I'll be finding out!
