Crispin come close to losing his life again. Meanwhile a lot of young women are losing theirs. But with Crispin locked up, Jack has to do all the investigating. And it doesn't help that his mind is on others things, like a lovely young lady. Desperate, Jack succumbs to doing something worse than murder, he enlists the help of one of the worst inventions of Medieval England, a lawyer!

This case has so many fingers in it, it gets confusing. But in the end, it all pans out. Even a step up in their accommodations for Crispin and Jack.
