In the last 6 months, 5 women known to be on the way home or to visit a woman friend, had been murdered on one of the streets in the same Paris district, a small section between 4 subway stations. Inspector Maigret baits a clever trap, but it fails and he must catch the killer the hard way, unraveling clues until he reaches the truth.
