What can I say, this Reacher book just didn't do it for me. I am a big fan of Lee Child and his Jack Reacher series. This book IMO has a lot of similarities to his first book, The Killing Floor (which I liked immensely) but it took a long time to get to the meat of this mystery. I thought Mr. Child was really reaching (pardon the pun) to come up with a plot for Mr. Reacher! Has Reacher reached his potential? I don't think so but maybe Mr. Child needs to take a vacation and recharge, although I did like his perspective on Jack's and the author's view on the women in Reacher's life in the back of the book. That in itself was worth reading. It is always interesting to see how an author perceives a long running character -- his likes and dislikes, etc. and what we might expect in the future. Will I continue to read the Reacher books, most definitely. Every author has a bummer book and I credit this one to Mr. Child.

Wow! so many people wanting this book, get it from the library and don't spend money for it. I'm not saying don't read it but get it from the library.
It is better than the last 2 Reacher books by far but yet it is still not the best.
It is almost 400 pages and that is way too long, most of the pages are taken up with overlong descriptions that aren't necessary and overlong descriptions of fighting whether it is with fists, guns, or whatever you can think of, and the moving all over the place, on the plane to go here or there, or get in the car and travel travel travel then we end up back where we started.
By half way into the book you still don't have one single clue as to what is going on and by 3/4 way into the book you still don't know what is going on, if you are not a computer person (which I just get by) you won't understand a lot of it when it hits the halfway point because then it starts getting into the 'deep' part of the internet and that I couldn't even begin to understand--oh well--so this is just a heads up for that part, and the story took a turn I didn't expect at all.
I did like the fact that the old Reacher seemed to be back, landing in the middle of something he shouldn't have but there are parts that just got old fast.

We will read anything by LC. This is not one of his best. It sets the hook early, but by the end it was too dark and grisly for our taste. More humanity needed, LC.
Standard Reacher fare following the classic pattern that Child has established. A decent, but uninspired read.

Another great story. Amazing imagination
Reacher decides to get off the train when it stops at an old, vacant train station in Mother's Rest. He figures he'd look for the historical significance of the town's name and then move on; however, he's mistaken for PI that Michelle Chang is working with and whom has gone missing. After finding out he's not not, Michelle and Reacher team up together to find out what's really going on in this strange town. The typical Reacher action ensues that makes the Lee Child series so damn good.
This book also includes "Small Wars," a Reacher short story that goes back in time to when he was still in the Army. Good story there, too.

After being a little disappointed with the last Reacher book, Personal, I'm glad to say that the Reacher I came to know from Child's earlier books is back! In Make Me, Reacher gets off the train in small farm community called Mother's Rest mainly because he wants to find out the origin of the town's name. When he gets off the train, he meets Michelle Chang, who is awaiting her partner, named Keever. Keever had called Chang to Mother's Rest as a backup but Keever seems to have disappeared. Chang and Keever are both former FBI agents who now operate as private detectives. Well Reacher has nowhere else to be and he's attracted to Chang so he teams up with her to try to find Keever. Something nefarious is going on in Mother's Rest and Reacher and Chang are out to find out what it is and what happened to Keever. To do this, they end up traveling to Oklahoma City, Chicago, Phoenix, and Los Angeles and through the dark places of the internet before they return to Mother's Rest where a real nightmare awaits. A high recommendation for this one!
Lana, I totally agree with everything you said! Reacher is my hero, I'm always excited when a new Reacher book comes out and I read it immediately, first, before any of my over 700 books to be read. I hate when I'm disappointed with the storyline of one of my favorite characters, this one didn't do it for me. Come on Mr Child, they don't call you Lee Child Reacher for nothing! I look forward to your next book, hopefully you got out of your funk!
One of my favorite Jack Reacher stories. Spell binding; a real page turner. Didn't see the result coming.
