This book is about two female friends who discover a secret door in a mansion being refurbished by their Historical Society. Old Harlequin House is Eastport, Maine's most notorious landmark, once a hideout, hospital and makeshift morgue for gansters and their molls. One of the bodies is a skelton dressed in 1920's flapper chic but the other is a local real-estate mogul with a chilling message pinned to his pocket: "Guilty". The two amateur sleuths must find a killer who's building an airtight case against one of their husbands.
A fun, well-written adventure.

"Working around the house can definately be murder. The HOME REPAIR IS HOMICIDE series is a much more pleasant way to kill time." -- Bangor Daily News

I am enjoying this series of books. Jacobia and her friend Ellie are wonderful characters - strong women. The "cast of characters" is interesting. I like the way Graves incorporates murder and mayhem into home repair, Wall Street, and New England life. In this one Ellie's husband, George, is accused of murdering a local real estate mogul. But 2 bodies are discovered: his and one from the roaring twenties. Parallels between the murders are discovered. Can they solve the murder and save George? And, in doing so, discover what happened back all those years ago? Of course they can!!!

From Publishers Weekly: "While Jacobia "Jake" Tiptree met with accidents galore in last year's outing, Unhinged, she faces more realistic challenges as wife, mother and amateur sleuth in this, the seventh page-turner in Graves's innovative cozy series. Jake, who's been restoring her own 1823 Federal home, joins her pregnant friend Ellie White in the community effort to fix up the historic Harlequin House in Eastport, Maine, once owned by an ancestor of Ellie's. Unable to resist opening a hidden door in the parlor that they unearthed after stripping wallpaper, they're horrified to discover not only the mummified body of a woman from the 1920s but also the corpse of the local historical society president and "Eastport's most irascible real-estate mogul," Hector Gosling. When Ellie's husband, George, is arrested for Gosling's murder, Jake and Ellie, who's hampered by the imminent birth of her baby, set out to prove George's innocence. As carefully and methodically as she strips the years of paint from the old door in her house, Jake peels back the layers of deception that mask the real killer. Readers will relish the author's evocative descriptions of small-town Maine, strong characters whose relationships evolve, sense of humor and, of course, helpful home-repair hints." Jake Tiptree and her friend Ellie White are refurbishing the old Harlequin House for the Historical Society Gala. The towns most notorious landmark once housed a gangsters hideout, a hospital, and a makeshift morgue for gangsters and their molls. While stripping the wallpaper in one room they discover a secret room that includes a mummified body and a fresh one as well. The newly dead body is a local real-estate mogul who has many enemies in town. Ellie's husband George is accused of the murder so Jake and Ellie set out to prove him innocent and someone else guilty. Then another body is found but dead long enough it doesn't clear George so they investigation continues.
