I was a little surprised by the comments being made about this book. I agree that I prefer some Johanna Lindsey's older titles; however, I really enjoyed this novel and was surprised it was receiving such censure. I happen to like the romance novels where the heroine is not just absolutely, drop-dead gorgeous and the attraction is not immediate but something grows over time. That is what makes a true romance.

I did like this story quite a bit, but not as much as others as I've read by this author. There were some light chuckles, but not nearly as much as others I've read. It felt like this was either a really early writing or one that was done just to get something out and published.

The ending was a nice twist, but the "mean" sister's about face in such a short amount of time was predictable and unimaginative.

Overall, the book wasn't up to par with her other ones and I'm glad I got this through a swap and didn't pay for the book!

Johanna Lindsey weaves her usual magic in "A Man to Call My Own." Marian and Amanda make sure no one realizes they're identical twins, each for her own reasons. Love changes both of the feuding sisters as they make their way out West to live with their aunt after their father's death. There were so many surpises and plot twists in the story, I had to read it twice - just for the fun of it!

In 1870's Texas, an unforgettable drama unfolds in the lives of rival twin sisters and the cowboy they both want to call their own.

I enjoyed this book until the end. Towards the end there was a twist in the plot. I thought the twist was a good one, until I kept reading. The author added another twist and it was a bit too much. The ending seemed too contrived and completely unrealistic. My overall rating was 3 stars. It would have been higher except for the ending. Other than the ending, it was a really good book.

This is a good light read for summer. I enjoy this author because she actual has a plot and doesn't write in the typical romance style.
