The man in question is part of an ancient family whose members are shielded by a golden armor (generated by the titled torc) in order to save the world (Repeatedly.) as we know it. When the family skeletons (some of which are livelier than others) start falling out of the closet Eddie Drood must find a way to save not just the world but also his family and his own life. Intriguing and well written, if you enjoyed the Nightside (and there will be elements of the NS you recognize) you'll love this- it's a little more refined, a little more polished but Green retains his sense of humor while restraining his more far-fetched plotlines. Very well done.

Truly an outstanding read in the dark fantasy genre! Looking forward to reading book #2!

I think that pretty neatly sums it up.

This is the second non-'NightSide' series of Simon R. Greens that I have read, (the first being 'DeathStalker') And I think it must just be me.

If it's not John Taylor (whom I MISS when I'm not reading him...it's that good) I'm just not that into it.

I wasn't as drawn in as I was with his Nightside series. But I still enjoyed the story and characters. I am currently reading the second book and am having trouble finishing it. It's a little too easy to put down and walk away. Still a big fan of Simon Green.
