This was one of the most powerful books I have ever read. The writer's ability to interweave four characters lives without a reader becoming lost is nothing short of miraculous. Each character's lives are independent and yet when they intertwine it's as if pieces of a whole have finally come together with the dog (Pax) as the strongest link in their chain.

This story has many ups and downs, moments that leave a reader tearful and moments that leave you profoundly changed. Each character does't seem to understand the significance that their presence makes on the lives of those around them or the profound change each one has on the others lives.

The ending in the book isn't what I would have hoped it would have been and yet I understand why the writer wrote it the way she did. Love has a way of changing us and for a few of us we are lucky to find that one person we can love no matter what and have that love returned. It's heartbreaking, however, when life and war can significantly alter those feelings and lead us through paths we never thought we'd take.

Take my advice and read this book. It's a fabulously written book that you wont be able to put down.
