If you are a fan of the SBC series; Causing Havoc, Simon Says, etc., don't expect this to be the same. This is a sci-fi futuristic time travel flik using a character from the SBC series. I had been waiting for this release and even pre-ordered it. I was SO! disappointed. Not what I was looking far.

I am a huge fan of Lori, and even like her new paranormal "Servant" series. This one is a little different than her other SBC stories, and you would never know it by reading the back cover, which is why I think a lot of readers were a little confused after reading it. While it is part of the SBC series, it deals very little with the other SBC books. I would classify it more as a Fantasy romance, instead of her usual contemporary romance, which is why Lori has added a special note to her website that she is not leaving the genre that made her a bestselling author.
I gave this book 3 stars. I liked the main characters, but just did not get into the story like I usually do with her other SBC books (Simon Says is still my fav). I have to say I was a little disappointed after reading this anxiously awaited story. If this is your first Lori Foster, this is unlike any of her other books, if not then just be forwarned for something a little different.

I was a little diappointed when I read reviews that the book I had been so looking forward to involved time travel and not the comtemporary SBC storyline that I was expecting. After reading the book, I thought it was very well done. It was a fast read and I liked the characters although the ending was easily predicted. Overall, not my favorite Foster book but it was still enjoyable.

Big disappointment! I don't mind the paranormal genre, but when I'm buying a book that sounds like a contemporary romance & it turns into some weird science fiction book that doesn't have much at all to do with the SBC series I was expecting......blech!

If you've been waiting for this one, I strongly suggest skipping it. It might be Lori Foster, but it just isn't worth it!

After reading posted reviews, I was prepared for the differences in this SBC series. However, the story was quick fun read - different yes but since I knew about the change, not unpleasant!

This book was a little different than Lori's other SBC books, but I thought it was very good. Be prepared as it is nothing like the other SBC books and borders on science fiction. I really liked the book though.

I loved this book! I don't really get the negative comments left about it by others... yes, this book has a science fiction quality to it, but it is not Isaac Asimov.
This book may not appeal to all, but it is my cup of tea. Highly entertaining and truly does reflect Lori's style. Of course, I do like sci-fi. I found the characters were consistent throughout the novel and very endearing.

This is not your usual Lori Foster book. It is more science fiction than her regular contemporary books. If you are reading Lori Foster for the first time please do not judge her writing on this book alone. I read the whole book but this is not my kind of story. I like her contemporary novels. I can only give this 3 stars. I hope she does not switch to this science fiction or paranormal as she is writing under a different name. Not my kind of book I expect from Ms. Foster.

I was surprised to learn that this was a 'futuristic book' because I had no clue by the back cover. That however did not take away how much I like this book. It is also apart of a series, so I'll be reading those as well. Lori Foster is a great author and I love her writing as L.L. Foster.

Alright.. this is a first for me. This book was one of the only books that I have read about a woman from the future coming back to get a man. I liked this book. However, I wasn't completely WOW'd by it though. It felt to me like the main character lost some of his wow factor in the middle of the book somehow. I'm not sure what happened but it was like he went from a stud to a you make the decisions honey type without any prompting.

As other reviewers stated, this isn't Ms. Foster's usual plot line. However, it does deliver her usual high-quality writing, plotting, and character development. Don't compare it to her fighter series; this book stands on its own. It is an original idea yet filled with her style romance: two equals who respect each other fall in love.

Lori Foster was the author who turned me on to reading in general and romance more specifically. I was counting down the days till this release. I was very disappointed. I only made it to the third chapter. I enjoy the straight forward contemp. romances. I do not enjoy reading books based in a futuristic setting, thus I did not enjoy this book. Lori Foster is an excellent writer and I hope she returns to write the novels we love and enjoy.

I was soooo disappointed with this book! I couldn't even get through the first 2 chapters. I LOVED the first 3 in this series but as soon as I started reading this one I hated it! I'm not a fan of paranormal romance, but even if I was I would still hate this book!

I know most people gave this book a really bad review because it is such a severe break from the SBC Fighter series. It isn't that bad if you read this as a stand alone paranormal romance. Just don't think SBC when you read it. It was fun and light-hearted. The end is somewhat abrupt and a bit rush but overall it was a decent read.

This book had such good potential....but then...

Time travel brings a pretty, but celibate "warrior" back in time because in her era the men are so few they are not allowed to fight. The women are the guardians. Her city/state is being threatened by a neighboring one that is led by a aggressive male and she needs someone to teach her group hand-to-hand fighting. She comes to the bedside of a professional fighter/boxer after he has been in a car accident that will probably mean the end of his career and offers to heal him if he will come to her time and live there and teach them to fight.

Sounds pretty good right? NOT! The man shows up and just bullies the whole group of people like they are retarded children. The "women warriors" are so meek and mild I was disgusted with them. There is some kind of serious psychological issues between the main character and her mother that I just got tired of. On top of this she is a virgin so the no-sex scenes between the two are luke-warm at best. I put the thing down half-way through and wanted to email the author to let her know what an inspiration she was. I wanted to tell her that I'm not a writer and I'm POSITIVE I could do better than that.

If it got better later, it was farrrr to late for me.

Don't waste your time.

Poor Lori Foster, getting dumped on so badly for trying something fresh and new. This is definitely a science fiction romance, so if you have to have contemporary, forget it. And while the character is from the SBC series, there is very little connection.

The book is very weak as science fiction; there is nothing about how our society changed into this very different one. Apparently we have evolved or devolved into a society of "colonies" that participate in and are ruled by the laws of a much larger (global?) government. For the particular colony most described in this story, leadership is hereditary, with appointed offices for important departments. The main female character Kayli is the "Claviger", the head warrior, in charge of security for the colony, within and without. She is also the daughter to the "Arbiter", the leader of the colony. This colony has a surplus of females, with the other colony involved in the story having a surplus of males; there is no attempt to explain this fact.

A badly injured fighter is offered a return to health if he will travel two centuries into the future to help a "colony" in need. They have so few males that they are unwilling to risk them in combat, so the military is all female. However, they are being bullied by another colony and feel the need for outside help--the assistance that they are asking of the 21st century professional fighter, Mallet.

If you can just accept the setting without caveat, you are left free to read a very enjoyable story.

I like Lori Foster's books, but was hesitant about this one after reading some negative reviews on Amazon. I LOVE this book and even bought a copy for my "keeper" shelf. I'm not sure if the Amazon reviewers didn't like the actual book, or if they were surprised by the time-travel aspect and felt "duped". Yes, there are parts of this book that require a suspension of belief, but the dialog and relationship between the two main characters was great. I want a "Michael" of my own!!

I continue to enjoy this series - although the remarkedly science fiction turn this story took completely suprised me. I enjoyed the characters and the plot. I will admit that I'd have like a bit more testosterone and battle but it worked out well. Will continue with the seriew.

What was she thinking? Don't bother reading this one. It lends nothing to the continuation of the SBC fighters on-going story and you won't miss a thing. The plot is typical and I knew half-way through what was going to happen. Don't bother adding to your collection. Check out from the library if you have to read this one.

I love Lori Foster's SBC fighter series. Heck, I just plain love Lori Foster books. However, this one should fall under the paranormal catagory, which is so not my cup of tea. Too weird, too unlikely--just a huge what the heck is going on here. I am sad, because I had high hopes for Michael--seemed like a good story was gonna happen, then it just got weird. Sorry Lori, next time, try and stay on earth!

This is the fourth book in the SBC Fighters series, however the book really detours from the other three in the series. This one is set in a different world and the only connections between this book and the others is the main character Michael ("Mallet"). I did enjoy this book--I actually read it before reading the others--so I wasn't as disappointed as other readers who were looking for a continuation of the series. While I do not usually gravitate towards paranormal/science fiction romances, I did find this one enjoyable and captivating. Lori Forster is a top-notch romance writer--her books usually deliver--this one certainly did! It was a fantastic read from one great author!

So this series is about SBC Fighters (you know like the UFC). I have really enjoyed every book in this series but this one. I'm sorry but i wasn't expecting a book in the middle of the series to be about a different time. A woman from the future comes back in time for an injured SBC Fighter to travel to the future to help her save her colony...really. It did not fit in with the rest of the series. I was really looking forward to reading about Michael "Mallet" Manchester. Then to read this one I was sooo disappointed. I felt like Michael was robbed of a good story. Glad that her next book in the series gets back to what the series was about to begin with. You could definitely skip this book in the series in my personal opinion

this was my least favorite of the series, it was ok, but not up to par with the others. the whole off planet part was a bit too much, and I didn't feel he was "the man for me" lol

I was highly disappointed in this book. I have read many of Lori Fosters books and was surprised to find this one science fiction and futuristic. It still had the steamy romance but was missing all the former characters from previous SBC Fighter books in the story line. It took me much longer to get into this book than all her others. It seemed cheesy at times and had an abrupt ending for me. Of course this is my opinion so if you like futuristic stuff and a little sci fy then give it a try.

This is a cute love story. It does have quite a bit of language so be forewarned.
Mallet Manchester is in the hospital, his fighting career is over. His legs are irreparably smashed.
Along comes a slight blonde beauty that promises him health and wholeness if he would come with her.
Is he mad or hallucinating? Is Kayli real or just a product of a pain hazed mind?
He choses to go with her and find the life he's always wanted.

I didn't finish the book and I was disappointed. This contains time travel which paranormal, fantasy or scifi readers will enjoy this book. I do not enjoy those types of books and Lori Foster generally writes under a different name when it is paranormal/fantasy. So if you think it is going to be like Havoc and Simon - you will be disappointed. I am going to read the reviews on her next book before I will get the book. I do not want to waste my time and money again. However, paranormal, fantasy or scifi readers -you may want to check it out.

Michael is seriously injured and thinks he's hallucinating when a beautiful woman appears (and disappears) in his hospital room promising to cure him if he goes with her to her colony. He agrees because even if he's dreaming he'll have a hell of a time. The romance between Kayli and Michael is super romantic and heart felt.

This is the first book in the SBC Fighters series that I've read (and the first by Lori Foster) and it's made me want to read the first three. I really like her writing even though the swearing is off the charts.

Lori Foster is one of my favorites. I loved this story but I was surprised that it involved traveling to the future (this was not hinted at on the back cover or in the exerpt in a prior book in the fighter series). Again, true to form, it was very enjoyable, quick read, and had a nice sensuality to it.

I have loved all of Lori Foster's books to date. I was very excited to see this book continuing the fighters' series. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed with the results. This was totally different than her usual style, and not in a good way. I have kept quite a few of her other books, but this one I listed. There was little humor, little "heat," and I stopped reading it several times. I only kept reading it because I thought it might get better - it never did. Hopefully this is just a "blip" in her writing, and that the next book will be back to her usual quality and style.

IMHO, a HUGE cop-out for Lori Foster. This would have been an awesome opportunity for her to write a good story about how a real man deals with a very real problem, and comes out of it as a stronger person, maybe not physically, but mentally. And a good opportunity to write a good story about how a real woman might accept a real man with a disability, and love him despite it.

Yes, it COULD have been that, but it wasn't. Not at all. Instead of having Mallet deal with his very real situation, she sends him off to some fairyland where he magically becomes whole again. Really? Again, cop-out.

I would have expected this if the series had been this way all along, but a series which is supposed to take place in a "real" modern-day world where "real" men are dealing with "real" situations? It just didn't fit at all. I'm a fan of the paranormal genre, and have read and loved many books similar to this one. This one is easily on par with the other paranormal authors I've read, but again, since it didn't fit with the series here, it seemed, again, like just a cop-out.

I'm all for Lori Foster wanting to write paranormals. That's ok with me. But, just not in the middle of a non-paranormal series. That just seemed wrong.

The third book in a series about SC fighters should not suddenly take flight, literally going to paranormal realm with a otherworldly female leading character. The back of the book is a huge scam for those following this series as nothing mentions a trip to another world. As much as I was looking forward to Michaels story I really want to ask Lori for my money back. I have had this book since its release and am trying to read it but only to chapter 8 as I keep putting it down in favor of other books. The book itself is a sunday afternoon read, easy to accomplish in one afternoon and forgotten the next day if you are a paranormal/fantasy fan. But for those of us SC fans putting this in the series with Simon Says and Causing Havoc is a really bad publishing decision. Of course I am likely to read Lori Foster again but will be more guarded to look at some pages and not just the back cover when browsing her book selections in the future.
