This book grabbed me from the prologue and never let go. While graphic at times, its full of twists, turns, and very well written characters, each with their own secrets and skeletons. You'll never think of New York or the people who live there the same way again.

I neglected my chores for a day and a half because I couldn't put this book down until I was finished. Excellent!!!
Falsely convicted of a brutual crime, college student Jeff Converse sees his future vanishing before his eyes. But someone has other plans for Jeff, in a place far deadlier than any penitentary. Soon Jeff finds himself beneath the teeming streets of Manhattan, in a hidden landscape of twisting tunnels and forgotten subterranean chambers. Here, an invisible population of the homeless, the desperate, and the mad has carved out its own shadow society. But they are not alone. For someone has made this forsaken civilization a private killing ground. Now, with no weapon but his wits, and an unimaginable threat lurking around every dark corner, Jeff must somehow move heaven and earth to escape from a living hell.
Very good book about the underground population in NY plus some added mystery.

A few four letter word..., but the story was thrilling, non stop action, and twisting plots. A excellent story, of course by the wonderful John Saul. I say this story is a 5!
