There are two stories in this book:
the first is "The Cowboy's Lady"

She soon notices a handsome opinionated, stubborn rancher named Russ Palmer and he notices her. In fact they more than notice each other...After only a few months, Taylor's certain of one thing. despite their conflicting backgrounds, she'd love to be THE COWBOY'S LADY..."tHE ONLY WOMAN WHO INTERESTS ME IS YOU" -Russ Palmer, rancher
the second stories is "The sherriff takes a wife"
The first day Christy Manning visits her sister, Taylor she meets Sheriff Cody Franklin. To Christy shock-and Cody's they're immendiately attracted to each other. Intensely attracted. There's a problem though. Christy's engaged to someone else, someone back in Seattle. So what's the solution? See what happens when THE SHERIFF TAKES A WIFE...."I feel if I've been waiting for you all my life"-Cody Franklin, sheriff of Custer County

It was a good book. I always enjoy her books. The first one was easier to get into, but they were both good stories.

In the Cowboy's Lady I really didn't like Russ at first but eventually I started to love him and hate Taylor. Eventually by the end of the book I began to love them both and was happy they end up together.
In the Sheriff Takes A Wife, I absolutely did not like Taylor's sister at all. Her cowardice was unattracting and made me lose interest in the story. As for the sheriff I actually sympathized with him until he gave in with her demands to break of her engagement in person.

Books one and two of the Manning Series.
Book 1- The Cowboy's Lady
Taylor Manning moves to Cougar Pointe from Seattle, to heal a broken heart. The last thing she expects to find is romance. But the attraction between her and rancher Russell Palmer is instant. The banter between this independent woman and chauvinistic male is entertaining and romantic. This was a sweet romantic story. You really are pulling for the two characters to end up together.
Book 2- The Sheriff Takes a Wife
Taylor's engaged younger sister, Christy, comes to Cougar Pointe to help with the birth of her child. While there, she falls in love with lawman Cody Franklin. The problem is, Christy has always done everything her parents expect of her and they are ecstatic about her engagement to James. I didn't like this story as much as the first one. I found Christy to be too much of a pushover. She was so concerned about hurting her parents and James that she ended up hurting everyone more.

This book is typical Macomber style.... City Mouse meets Country Mouse and they both fall in love. A well written romance about unexpected partners in unexpected places. Perfect stories to read on a cold winter's night.

These stories are both updates of older versions and it shows. Not just in that there aren't any cell phones, but in the stories themselves as when the heroine keeps insisting that she can't love the hero, she can't, she can't, she can't but then does a 180 for no reason and admits that she does. That type of poor plotting/motivation worked at one time, but not anymore. Not for me.

Unless you want to see how far romance novels have come since 1990, skip these two! I gave up reading the first one when the hero declared that women shouldn't hold elected office because they should be at home taking care of their husbands. The second story wasn't much better with a heroine so wimpy she almost married a man she didn't love to make her parents happy.

Wonderful two-for-one romance novel. I read the entire book on a quiet Saturday. I couldn't put it down. Takes off fast...no longing to finish a chapter or two to get to the next exciting event. I would definitely read this over and over again.
