Life is full of ups and downs and the same is true even for heroes. A seemingly simple case of a sailor's death turns out to be not so simple and the frustrations he encounters in the small port town while trying to investigate it lead Crowner John to pursue the Chief Justiciar Hubert Walter to get added help in prosecuting this crime. What he gets is maybe more than he's bargained for when King Richard makes him a flattering offer. So many changes strike our hero in this story, but as always he's resolute if not resilient.

Wow! If you are a fan of "Crowner John" then this book must be read. Lots of action here, plus it ties up some loose ends for him. Nevertheless, it also creates new loose ends. Not sure what is going on, but I'm looking forward to reading the nexxt book.
