An old-fashioned romance about a marriage of convenience. Quite well done and satisfying because the plot took some unexpected turns. The couple travels to Portugal where the hero is working as a diplomat for the British government. This takes place just before Portugal was invaded by Napoleon and the Brits got involved in the Peninsular Wars. So lots of adventure, trials and tribulations before the HEA. Their troubles are complicated by politics, and by the hero's lack of trust in women. My only quibble was that they were separated during a good part of the book, and are only reunited at the end.

I recommend this old fashioned marriage of convenience story. Some parts of it are surprising realistic. The setting, in Portugal just before the Peninsular War started there, is interesting. There's some adventure and a secondary romance.
