I really love the book. I read it while waiting for a flight and I could just imagine how people saw me crying while reading a book...
There are so many kids who are considered "difficult to place" because of outbursts, tantrums and testing. Other times it's just because the kids are over a certain age. Please google Heart Gallery or Hope, Inc., which are organizations that try to find adoptive families for children who are "difficult to place".
I watched the movie after reading the book. Loved the special features where they speak to father and son...love john cusack, but the movie disappointed me.

Excellent story about single gay man adopting a son. Picture of the system and our times.

Based on Gerrold's experiences in adopting a special-needs child, this short "novel" brims with Gerrold's breezy and self-deprecating style as it examines heartfelt truths.

wonderful book!
This is a really delightful book. Part-way through, I began to think it was going to turn into some unusual kind of science fiction...whether or not it did, I leave to later readers.
