Alex Cross is asked to investigate the murder of an actress in Los Angeles, and an email sent to the Los Angeles Times that has details about the murder, signed by Mary Smith. More killings and more emails follow. Alex Cross and the LAPD must find a pattern to these murders before Mary Smith sends another chilling update.
I loved this mystery. It's must better than the last few books in the series.

If you liked this prior books you will love this one too! It will keep you reading til the end!!!
The latest Alex Cross mystery and it is a page-turner. Alex is on vacation but called to look into murders that are preceded by the murderer emailing a news reporter of his intentions. It is set in Hollywood and the LAPD and FBI are at odds on how to solve these killings. Really great story and kept me guessing.
Predictable but entertaining.
Lots of fast action.
One of the best in the Alex Cross series. I know it won't last long on my bookshelf.
Another good story and plot in the Alex Cross series. One of the best books in the series.
James Patterson is the master of suspense and this is no exception. Impossible to put down.
MARY MARY WAS A VERY GOOD BOOK. I FINISHED IT THIS MORNING OVER LOOKING THE LAKE AND ENJOYING SOME COFFEE. THE LAST 140 PAGES WERE GREAT AND REALLY WRAPPED EVERYTHING UP FAST. I HAVE BEEN WAITING TO READ THIS BOOK AND IT WASN'T WHAT I THOUGHT IT WAS LIKE BUT IT WAS A GOOD BOOK. THE HYPE OF THE BOOK WAS MORE THAN I THOUGHT IT WAS WHEN I READ IT BUT PATTERSON PULLED IT OFF AND IT WAS A GREAT ENDING THE WHOLE ENDING!!! IT IS A MUST READ CROSS BOOK. KEEP THE SERIES COMPLETE AND READ THEM ALL.
Very good book
Lots of twists and turns in this story keeps you glued to the book until the end!!
Good read!
Alex Cross always provides a good read.

Great writer and story.

Another great Alex Cross story. You will not want to put it down.
This one kept me guessing and was very difficult to put down.
Typical Patterson
"Patterson, a brilliant storyteller, has created another uniquely horrifying villain. MARY, MARY takes its place alongside his best. -- BookReporter.com
Another in the series featuring Alex Cross, FBI agent. He is asked to investigate the shooting of a top actress. An email was sent to the Los Angeles Times, giving shocking details about the murder...signed "Mary Smith."

Nice thriller mystery and fast paced.Didn't expect to enjoy the book but whoa....
Good Alex Cross book.
usual james patterson novel- well written, good read
A standard Alex Cross read with good twists and turns.
Good Alex Cross book - crazy serial killer (you'll never guess who it is) and his usual family issues keep it from getting too dark.
Very good, you can never miss with an Alex Cross story!
This is one of Alex Cross's best cases. I highly reccomend this novel.
Successful Hollywood women are dying in gruesome fashion. The murderer sends taunting emails after each murder, taunting the police to catch "her." Will Alex Cross find the murderer before "she" claims her next victim?
Great Read
Alex Cross rides again! He loses a child, gains a child, loses a girlfriend, gains a girlfriend (we think....)
If you're an Alex Cross fan, this is the next episode in his saga!
If you're an Alex Cross fan, this is the next episode in his saga!
Another quick and captivating read by Patterson. Another good plot that keeps you guessing. Very enjoyable Patterson... keeps your attention!
Another excellent Alex Cross book. I love the dynamics between Alex and his son's mother, Christine.....she has turned into such a different person since the whole kidnapping thing a few books back. The plot is exciting and has many twists, leaving you wondering until the very end who Mary really is.
Good suspense novel. Keeps you guessing.
Someone is murdering Hollywood's A-list. Her calling card: "You've got mail." FBI agent Alex Cross is asked to investigate the shooting of a top actress.. and an e-mail sent to the Los Angeles Times with shocking details about the murder, signed Mary Smith. More murders occur and Mary Smith is getting better every time. James Patterson is one of my favorite authors and delivers every time.
Good book. It was my first Alex Cross book and it made me want to read more. If you like James Patterson then this book will not dissapoint you.
Another page turner, stay up all night about Alex Cross, FBI agent.
Love Patterson. Anything by Patterson.
A Hollywood A-list murderer is on the rampage and loves to play games by dropping e-mail hints. It's up to FBI agent, Alex Cross to give chase. A good read that keeps you entertained.
James Patterson is one of my favorite authors. Mary, Mary is wonderful just like the rest of his books!
Fun, start to finsh.
Very good storyline. Another great read from JP.
Great story, as always. A very good read, keeps you going up 'til the end!
Classic Patterson, great twist at the end!
Not my favorite in the Alex Cross series, but ok.
Fast paced. Hard to put donw. Classic James Patterson's murder mystery with its twists.
The enjoyable storyline is about a sicko serial killer who is self proclaimed as the "the Storyteller", who proceeds to knock off successful Hollywood women and mothers, and then sending emails from one "Mary Smith" sent to the LA Times explaining the murders in detail. Competition between the FBI and LAPD's pursuits is a common footnote to much of the proceedings. The end, will totally surprise you by the identity of the perpetrator. I truly find myslef caught up in the bits about Cross and his kids and I get as much caught up into their lives as I do the murder cases. THis is another good book from Patterson and a tremendous suspense that is hard to put down.
Terrific book!
Patterson gets better with every book! As usual, Alex Cross has to deal with both a genius-level criminal and problems in her family life. How does he do it? Well, actually, he handles things quite well, although it doesn't seem so at times. Patterson brings his characters to life in a way few authors can. You'll find yourself genuinely caring about Cross, Nana Mama, the children and the victims. And maybe even for Mary. Recommended.
This book was just as good as the others. Read them in order - its a wonderful series of books.
Good mystery!
SCARY!!! I really enjoyed this book that is another of Pattersons Alex Cross stories. It has many twists and turns. I couldn't put it down.
Another great Alex Cross
Believe it or not, this is the first time I have read James Patterson - and I definitely will be coming back for more! This book kept me on the edge of my seat, and I couldn't put it down. I didn't find it at all predictable, though that may be because I haven't read any other Patterson and don't know his style yet. The ending was a great twist, and I can't wait to pick up some more of the Alex Cross novels...
James Patterson, although not an intellectual challenge, is a great read....beach...late nights...his books help me to relax
FBI agent Alex Cross is asked to investigate the shooting of a top actress...and an e-mail sent to the LA Times with shocking details about the murder. More killings and more e-mails follow, as the killer gets better and more creative each time.
I love the Alex Cross series of books, and this one was no exception! This is a fast-paced thriller with a twist that I did not expect. You won't be disappointed with this James Patterson bestseller!
Fast-paced thriller. Excellent book. I couldn't put it down.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a good read.
Alex Cross at his finest. Ending was rather abrupt.
I love this character, good story.
One of Patterson's best, must read for a Patterson fan.
Another interesting installment in the Cross series.
Brand new - never read
I have read all of Pattersons books, enjoying each and every one. This one was no exception.
Excellent read in James Patterson style.
This is a very good murder-mystery. You never know what will happen next. A must-read.

If you are a James Patterson Fan this is one with Detective Alex Cross that you can not miss! Like all his others a total page turner.

Last seen in London Bridges (2004) chasing a terrorist, Washington, D.C., PD detective turned FBI agent Alex Cross is enjoying a much-needed vacation at Disneyland with his family when he's called in by the FBI to consult with the LAPD on a high-profile murder case. A-list actress Antonia Schifman has been slain, her face so badly cut up that she's almost unrecognizable. The murder isn't random; an L.A. Times gossip columnist has received a series of e-mails from a woman named Mary Smith, taking responsibility for the killing of Antonia, her chauffeur, and a well-known female movie producer. Cross studies the e-mails, which make reference to Mary's ordinary appearance and her fixation on the perfect families, particularly the children, of both women. When another prominent woman is slain, Cross is sucked into the case full time, jeopardizing the outcome of the custody battle he's involved in over his youngest son. As Cross studies the e-mails and patterns of the killer, he realizes he can't be certain of anything, even the gender of Mary Smith. The thrills in Patterson's latest lead to a truly unexpected, electrifying climax. Kristine Huntley

James Patterson one of my favorite authors. Another Alex Cross mystery just as suspenseful as the other Patterson books. This is definately a great read, and another cant put it down book.
Another wonderful Alex Cross novel with killings, e-mails and stars. I enjoy Alex Cross novels tremendously
Another modern thriller with Alex Cross
What a great series! Another Alex Cross episode, and, as all of the others, full of suspense and intrigue. It's great the way Patterson gives you insight into both the personal side of Alex as well as his professional involvements. Another page-turner, I couldn't wait to find out how this one was handled and solved by Alex. I love getting to know the people in Alex Cross's life and see how he deals with the never-ending drama in his children's lives as well as Nana. Great book!!
Wonderful book, James Patterson writes well. Great read!
I'm not usually into books like this, but the whole time I was asking myself questions and it actually had me thinking. It definitely wasn't predictable, which I love. I never felt bored or lost, the way he wrote it had you thinking the same way the main character was.
Protags: Alex Cross
Setting: Los Angeles, Hollywood, Washington D.C.
First sentence: "Act One, Scene One, the Storyteller thought to himself, and couldn't hold back the dizzying rush of anticipation."
I thought this book was typical Patterson fashion. There are some important side stories that happen that will change the course of future books. I kept waiting for the "A-ha!" moment where the storyline and killer was clarified for me but it never came. It was a quick read however so not too much of my life was lost to it.

great alex cross mystery keeps you guessing till the end .ill never understand why they portrayed morgan freeman as alex in the movie of along came a spider , because they describe alex as mahamed alli look alike which morgan freeman is not ! there choice just strikes me as funny!
If you like mysteries you will love this book. I love the way Patterson writes and I am sure you will too.
Absolutley terrific! Patterson hits it on the nail again with another great Alex Cross novel!
Excellent read! Alex Cross is back! This is as exciting as Patterson's earlier Cross novels.
A good mystery story. keeps you turning the pages. what was unique, or so it seemed to me was the fact that the chapters were so small. two to three pages were many of them, and for what reason I could not guess. another mystery ?
Alex cross is back. A quick read.
What can I say? Another wonderful Alex Cross novel. Hard to put down, kept my interest until the end. I love Alex Cross.
This is book 11 in the Alex Cross series.
A psychological investigation into the murders, along with Alex questioning his own life as a father, husband, and person had me turning the pages. I really enjoyed this story and the parallelism Patterson used throughout. Very good psychological suspense!

FBI agent Alex Cross is on vacation with his family in Disneyland when he gets a call fro the director. A top actress has been shot outside her home in Beverly Hills. Shortly afterward, an editor for the Los Angeles Times receives an e-mail recounting the murder in shocking detail, signed Mary Smith. The authorities fear this is only the beginning. More killings follow, and more e-mails arrive immediately after. Mary Smith is targeting Hollywood stars and power brokers, and she is getting better every time. Right from the start, this case is like nothing Alex has ever confronted before. Could this be the plan of an obsessed fan or a spurned actor, or is it part of something much more terrifying? And how could a woman be capable of these vicious crimes? People make enemies easily in Hollywood. To track down a merciless killer, Alex must navigate a world where the stars and players sip San Pellegrino at the Ivy as hopefuls hover around studio gates armed with 8 X 10 glossies. Members of the A-list fear they're next on Mary's list, and the case catapults into blockbuster proportions as Cross and the LAPD scramble to find a pattern before Mary can send one more chilling update.
Absolutely riveting! Page after page I turned to get to the end to find out who really was behind it all. Twists and turns just engross this book and it's Alex cross at his best, but with some personal sacrifices along the way.
Super!! I love all the Alex Cross stories, can't wait to read them.

very good read as are all of his books.

Great Alex Cross... his best to date in my opinion.
Great Alex Cross... his best to date in my opinion.
You'll just have go for the ride on this one. The killer -nicknamed in Patterson Style - THE STORYTELLER isn't someone who is well developed as a character. We don't get to guess or try to solve THIS ONE.
I've always felt it holds an author back from writing a good mystery. I always enjoy a twist I wasn't expecting and here was the killer right under your nose and you never saw it coming. I think he /or who ever wrote Roses are Red did a good job of that one.
Alex tires me out with his woman problems LOL.
Patterson's short chapters make this a quick read, if you follow Alex Cross then you definitely will want to read this one.

VERY VERY GOOD READ
Great Alex Cross book.
excellent
Very good mystery
Not one of his best. I hope that Patterson leaves Christine out of the books from now on. She is getting tiresome.

One of the best Alex Cross novels. Why can't I find a man like that?
Awesome!!
this was another great james patterson book you never know till the ending who done it
Just another wonderful piece of James Patterson.
Great James Patterson. Story does tend to get a bit long towards the end with a lot of unnecessary information; however, overall a great read. James Patterson never dissappoints.
This book was ok. I am not much of a modern reader, so I am not a very good judge of it. I like Agatha Christie & Jane Austen better. :)
Clever...
Typical Patterson. Lots of twists and turns.
Great book.

James Patterson is a wonderful author. His books are very difficult to put down. This one really had me guessing. Very enjoyable!
excellent book, the Alex Cross series is an excellent read. always waiting for the next one to come out.
Patterson always writes great stories!
Although I didn't find MARY, MARY as riveting as the first Alex Cross novels KISS THE GIRLS or ALONG CAME A SPIDER, I was still glad to see Mr. Cross back in action--in his private and professional life.
While on a long-awaited, and definitely well-earned, vacation at Disneyland in California with his family--Nana Mama, daughter Jannie, teenaged son Damon, and three-year-old Alex Jr.--Alex wants nothing more than spend some quality time with those he loves. Yes, the fact that James Truscott, an investigative journalist who has been hounding Alex for months, shows up on their vacation is an annoyance, but nothing that can't be handled. He even gets to meet his current love interest, Jamilla Hughes, an officer with the San Francisco PD, for a little one-on-one R & R. But then his vacation is brought short, yet again, by a phone call from his boss, summoning him to a crime scene at the home of a famous actress right there in L.A.
Detective Cross is inevitably drawn deeper and deeper into a case that he was only supposed to have to give his initial impressions on. Someone is killing famous and wealthy mothers in the entertainment business--someone who claims to call herself Mary Smith, and who sends an email after each death detailing the crime to L.A. Times entertainment writer Arnold Griner.
As Alex gives chase to "Mary Smith", interviewing the victim's families and trying to find any clue as to the killer's identity, his personal life takes a downward spiral--his ex, Christine, little Alex's mother, is suing for full-custody, and Jamilla informs him that she's found someone new. As Alex tries to put his family first once again, he realizes that the job always seems to get in the way--and this case is no different.
In typical fast-paced James Patterson style, MARY, MARY is an engrossing thriller that will have you turning pages quickly to find out what happens next.

THis is another great James Patterson book!
if you like alex cross you will like this book
Excellent Alex Cross continuation! There is always comfort reading about Alex and his family.
FBI agent Alex Cross is called in to help solve the defacing murders of Hollywood A-listers by someone who sends e-mails signed Mary Smith. Is Mary Smith really a woman, are these murders commited by one person, an obsessed fan? Shocking twists make this James Patterson's most sophisticated thriller yet.
This book is filled with ruthless and shocking twists. It is a thiller!
"You've got mail" isn't a good think for this newspaperman. It means another hollywood person has been murdered. The emails are signed Mary, Mary but Alex Cross, one of the best FBI men in the country, isn't sure it is a woman doing the killing despite the signature on the emails. Very good read, one of Patterson's best in a while. I couldn't figure out the killer but Alex does as usual.
