It appears a lot of research has gone into this book, and Jillian acts upon what she believes. I found useful tips to use in my own course to a healthier lifestyle, but if I tried to do everything she suggests, I would need to make this a full time job. She does state it is better to try one or two things first then move on. I think the item I took away from the book that will be the most helpful to me is trying to buy organic when possible. Her examples and explanations finally brought it home to me why this is such a key ingredient to trying to maintain weight, and feeling better physically. With a vegetable garden in the summer, we do maintain this type of eating during the season, but during the winter not so much. I had to skim over parts of the book as it became very scientific explaining the human body and its chemistry. Again though, there were helpful tips buried in those pages too. For me it was worth a complete read through, but is not a keeper for my library at this time.

Well, this book mostly made my head hurt. She makes a few helpful suggestions such as throwing out everything in your fridge and cabinet that didn't grow in the earth or have a mother (does that mean we can eat people?!) and she tells you to eat 4 small meals, 4 x's a day and not to eat after 9 but I learned a whole lot more about hormones and how they effect your body and your metabolism than I ever wanted to know. I seriously don't think I'll retain any of it as I couldn't stay focused on the content. I read an abridged version, I can only imagine how painful the full version must be. It's very clinical and wasn't what I expected. What was I expecting? I guess food combos to help speed up the metabolism. Instead I got endless info. dumps about toxicity in food, makeup, cleaning supplies making me afraid to crawl out of bed (ugh, my cotton sheets are from Target and are not organic so I'm probably not safe there either!). I've read most of this info. in other publications, articles and books and I know she has a point but realistically to live as organically as she does is a full time job and a costly endeavor and I don't have the resources. I clean with vinegar and baking soda, eat as clean as possible but if I bought all organic stuff my family would be extremely hungry because the budget is already stretched as far as it'll go. She tosses off the issue of cost saying something insensitive like "Stop buying gossip rags and you'll have the cash". If only! This tells me she doesn't know what it is like to struggle to feed a family and pay a mortgage and make the payments for two kids in braces when your pay has been cut and your options are few. The audio comes with a PDF which includes an eating plan and other stuff but I'm going to skip it for now because I'm doing the P90X plan and I also don't feel like I could do it justice because of the high price of organics in my area.

Glad I borrowed this one from the library and didn't trade in something to get it.

Though a little intense with all the physiology, I thought this book was great, a real eye opener about what I was putting into my body. It kinda freaked me out a little, and has me really thinking about a lifestyle change. I was looking for that next thing to help me with my weight loss. Today is Day5 for me in going all natural with my food choices, not organic necessarily and I'm not going to the extreme of changing my toiletries or avoiding plastic. I'm gonna give it 30 days and see how it goes. I'm already more aware of what I'm putting into my body and I've already lost 2# in 5 days! I completely recommend everyone reading this just to open your eyes about food. It was also amazing to learn more about Jillian's past. Jillian is a great writer, very witty, easy to read!

Jillian goes into a LOT of detail about what eat hormone does & doesn't do as well as how it is affected, what foods are good/bad to help increase/reduce the hormone.

She provides an "eat this" to do that with each one also. I began to feel that if I ate everything she recommended, I'd be 300 lbs and gaining! Unfortunately, I don't think she really covered sugars and grains as far as other things they do to our system. I think if you are looking to fully understand how our food intake affects us and work on "fixing" your hormones and your health, Dallas & Melissa Hartwig's "It Starts with Food" may be a better starting point. It's written more for the average person in a common sense method.

While Jillian's book is incredibly detailed and a good reference, it can be overwhelming.

I love Jillian, and this book is really well written.

At the same time, I don't think I can go all-organic/nothing processed. I think I'll incorporate some of her suggestions, but most of this is just too difficult right now.
