I love the McKettrick series, but McKettrick's Pride is one of my favorites, because of the interesting characters and the "guy-type" affection between the male family members.
Rance McKettrick is one of several family members who move back to the family ranch to pick up the pieces of a crumbling previous lifestyle. (Ah, if we all had such a ranch to fall back on when times get hard!)
But in this case, Rance has to make a home and become both father and mother to two young daughters, a task he feels unprepared for.
Complicating his life but delighting his daughters, quirky Echo Wells is also facing challenges as she moves to the McKettricks' small hometown to start a bookstore and a new life.
Bouncing into town in her Pepto-Bismol-colored Volkswqon Bug in a rainstorm, and immediately adopted by a wet bedraggled dog she can't bear to kick out, Echo tries to fit into the town, making us laugh with her naive but uplifting spirit as she faces her challenges with patience and humor.
But meanwhile, back at the ranch.....
