Sir Elton does not appear to hold anything back in this autobiography. The only time he shows restraint is in discussing his brief marriage. But the rest of of his one is literally an open book. The drugs, drinking, and sex are all there. I you are an EJ fan, this is a mustread.
Every time I read a celebrity written book I swear I am not going to read another one, they are all basically have the same lay out, grew up in some kind of dysfunctional family, was either shy or over the top in childhood, wanted fame, got fame , could not handle fame, started drinking/ doing drugs or both, hit rock bottom, self destructed then on to rebuilt or rebuilding self. This book is all the above and more, this is Elton John on every single page. He does not hold back and lays out his life for all to see. I do like some of his music so this was an interesting, fun book to read.
Elton John sure had a wild life!
I was absolutely swept away by this wonderful autobiography by Elton John. As one might expect, it covers his massive career in the music industry. It also reveals the struggles of being a gay man as he comes out to his friends and family, loses friends from AIDS, looks for love, ages, marries and has children through surrogacy. I was so impressed with his amazing drive to create music, endless imagination, brilliance and how quickly he could write a song with Bernie Taupin's lyrics. As you read this story of Elton John's life, you can't avoid the realization that for quite some time cocaine played a central devastating role is his life. Throughout his life, he found a way through the hard times and rose above the prejudices to find his happiness. I highly recommend this book. I stayed up very late last night to finish it because it was so good.
